Updates on Covid-19 from the Ministry of Health and family Welfare: Recovery Rate improves to 52.47%; MoHFW releases a guide to combat stigma associated with Covid-19

During the last 24 hours, 10,215 COVID-19 patients were cured. A total of 1,80,012 patients, so far, have been cured of COVID-19. The recovery rate rises to 52.47%, which is indicative of the fact that more than half of positive cases have recovered from the disease.Currently, 1,53,178 active cases are under medical supervision.The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a detailed illustrated guide to address the issue of stigma faced by people affected by COVID-19 including patients recovered from COVID-19, frontline healthcare providers, their families etc.

Testing capacity ramped up, reaches 3 lakh tests/day

The testing capacity for detecting the novel Coronavirus in infected persons in the country is continuously being ramped up. The country now has the capacity to test 3 lakh samples per day. The total number of samples tested thus far is 59,21,069 with 1,54,935 samples tested in the last 24 hours. A network of 907 labs has been created in the country as on date. This includes 659 labs in the government sector and 248 in the private sector. The details are as follows:

• Real-Time RT PCR based testing labs: 534 (Govt: 347 + Private: 187)
• TrueNat based testing labs : 302 (Govt: 287 + Private: 15)
• CBNAAT based testing labs : 71 (Govt: 25 + Private: 46)

In order to enhance the testing capacity in Delhi, each of the 11 districts shall now have assigned labs for exclusively testing the samples from the respective districts. The samples from each district are being sent to these labs to ensure timely testing and getting the results without any delay. Currently there are 42 labs in Delhi with per day testing capacity of approx. 17000.

PM holds interaction with CMs to discuss situation emerging post Unlock 1.0

Prime Minister Shri NarendraModi today interacted with Chief Ministers via video conferencing to discuss the situation emerging post Unlock 1.0 and plan ahead for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.Prime Minister observed that timely decisions taken to combat the pandemic have been effective in containing its spread in the country. When we look back, people will remember that we have presented an example for cooperative federalism to the world, he said.Prime Minister noted that with the efforts of the past few week, green shoots in the economy are visible. Prime Minister said there is significant importance of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and MSMEs in the participating States, provisions for which have been made under Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan.

Today’s interaction was the first part of the two day interaction, and witnessed participation of States and UTs including Punjab, Assam, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur, Nagaland, Ladakh, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra Nagar Haveli & Daman Diu, Sikkim and Lakshadweep.

Centre asks States to engage with the private sector for augmenting healthcare infrastructure, and provisioning of critical care at reasonable rates

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has addressed the States/UTs to engage with the private healthcare providers to facilitate enhanced bed availability and critical care health facilities as well as to ensure fair and transparent charges for services provided.In order to ensure that patients receive prompt, good quality and care at reasonable rates, it has been suggested to States to have consultations with the local private healthcare providers and arrive at reasonable rates, while factoring in cost elements for personal safety equipment for healthcare providers. It has been suggested that the rates, once fixed, must be widely publicized so that both the patients and service providers are fully aware and capacities are used optimally.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah pays surprise visit to LokNayak Jay Prakash Narayan Hospital to review arrangements related to COVID-19

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah paid a surprise visit to LokNayak Jay Prakash Narayan Hospital on Monday to review arrangements related to COVID-19. Shri Amit Shah directed the Delhi Chief Secretary to install CCTV cameras in Corona wards of every Corona hospital, so that there is proper monitoring and problems of patients can also be resolved. He also directed that back-ups for canteens supplying food should also be established, so that in case there is an infection in one canteen, patients can continue to get food without disruption. Shri Amit Shah directed that psycho-social counselling of doctors and nurses engaged in service to humanity through the treatment of Corona patients should also be done.

Tackling an unprecedented crisis of the nature and combating the challenges thrown by the Covid-19 Pandemic require different and innovative approaches. One segment that has been severely impacted during the ongoing crisis has been the tribal population. In such a scenario, the Van Dhan Start-ups, established under the scheme initiated by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has emerged as a source of employment generation for tribal gatherers and forest dwellers and also the home-bound labour and artisans.1205 Tribal Enterprises have been established to provide employment opportunities to 3.6 lakh tribal gatherers and 18000 Self-help groups in 22 States.

AYUSH Ministry gears up for International Day of Yoga 2020 with the “Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family” campaign

In context of the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, slowdown in daily activities and restrictions on the movement of people, this year’s observance of International Day of Yoga will aim to highlight the health-building and stress-relieving aspects of Yoga. To facilitate this, the Ministry of AYUSH is organising a trainer-led session which will be telecasted on Doordarshan on 21^st June at 6:30AM for people to follow and practice in solidarity.

• Chandigarh: The Administrator, UT Chandigarh, has directed health officials to focus on visitors coming from outside and also to take special care of co-morbidities cases. He also appealed to citizens to maintain physical distance and wear masks in public places.
• Punjab: Pointing to the large-scale devastation and distress caused to the state due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Punjab Chief Minister has sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister, seeking fiscal aid from the Government of India to the tune of Rs 80,845 crore, along with non-fiscal assistance on various counts, in order to save lives and secure livelihoods in the new normal.
• Haryana: Chief Minister in a review meeting on COVID-19 asked the officers to work with the spirit of service to mankind and to take steps to make public aware about ways to protect themselves from the infection. The Chief Minister emphasized on the distribution of face masks to the public to ensure protection from COVID-19 and further added that the amount collected from the fine imposed for not wearing masks should be used to make new masks and then distribute them among the needy people. He said that people should be motivated to increase their immunity levels. He said that Ayurvedic and Homeopathy medicines have no side effects and there is no harm if people use these medicines in general.
• Maharashtra: 2,786 patients have been newly identified as positive, taking the state tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,10,744. Total number of active patients stands at 50,554. Hotspot Mumbai reported 1,066 new cases.
• Gujarat: There are 5,886 positive cases in the state now, while the total number of COVID-19 infections stand at 24,055.
• Rajasthan: 115 new infections have been reported today, mostly from Bharatpur district.The number of COVID-19 positive persons has gone up to 13,096, out of which 9794 people have been recovered and 302 persons have died till date due to the infection. The recovery rate of COVID patients has increased to 75 per cent in the state, which is the highest in the country. A state-wide 10-day long special campaign will be launched in Rajasthan on June 21 to create awareness about COVID-19. Under the campaign, State Health Department teams will conduct door-to-door active surveillance and make people aware of the precautions to be taken for prevention and control of COVID-19.
• Madhya Pradesh: The Corona virus case count in the state reached 10,935 with 133 new patients being detected in the last 24 hours. Six COVID-19 patients died during this period, taking the death toll to 465. The doubling time of cases in the state has increased to 34.1 days while the recovery rate has gone up to 71.1 per cent. Madhya Pradesh stands second in the country in terms of recovery rate after Rajasthan.
• Chhattisgarh: 44 new cases have been identified, having the tally of COVID-19 positive cases to 1,715, out of which 875 are active cases.
• Goa: 28 new positive cases have been identified on Monday, taking the state tally of COVID-19 to 592; out of which 507 are active cases.  The major locations of COVID-19 cases in Goa are Mangor Hill, New Vaddem, Morlem, Baina, Chimbel and Sada.
• Arunachal Pradesh: In Arunachal Pradesh, trucks from Dhemaji, Assam to East Siang and other districts start plying again with essential supplies. Movement was stopped a week ago due to issues concerning SoPs to be followed by truckers.
• Assam: 10 new COVID19 positive cases have been reported in Assam taking total cases to 4319, active cases 2103, recovered 2205 and deaths  8.
• Manipur: Manipur CM met representatives of Public Sector Bank officials on provision of credit facilities to hundreds of street vendors of ImaKeithel and others under AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
• Mizoram: In Mizoram, 8884 people currently placed under quarantine, State government is trying to increase testing ratio, says State Health Minister.
• Nagaland: Dimapur issues revised lockdown guidelines. Passenger vehicles to remain off the road till June 30, saloons to remain closed and markets/mall to re-open in phases.  District Task Force team in Peren, Nagaland donates water storage tanks attached with basin & stand to COVID hospital, CHC Jalukie& District Hospital Peren.
• Kerala: Kerala has asked the Centre to make Covid negative certificate compulsory for Vande Bharat Mission. State Industry Minister E.P. Jayarajan said Covid affected expats should be brought by special plane. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has directed expatriates going to Kerala in chartered flights to produce Covid certificate from June 20 onwards. The state health department has come up with new guidelines for Covid primary testing Centers; only those with mild symptoms and asymptomatic to be admitted in the primary centers in the initial stage. Four more Keralites including a nun in Mexico died of the Covid-19 outside Kerala. The state had reported one death, 82 positive cases and 73 recoveries. Currently, 1,348 are under treatment and a total of 1,20,727 people are under surveillance in various districts.
• Tamil Nadu: Over 13 lakh differently-abled people in Tamil Nadu will get Rs 1,000 cash relief to help them during the ongoing lockdown phase; earlier the same relief was announced by the State for rice ration cardholders and workers of unorganised sector. JIPMER microbiologist among 14 new Covid-19 cases in Puducherry; with this, the total number of cases in the UT has risen to 216.1843 new cases, 797 recoveries & 44 deaths reported yesterday. 1257 cases from Chennai. Total cases: 46504, Active cases: 20678, Deaths: 479, Discharged: 24547, Active cases in Chennai: 15385.
• Karnataka: To help the farmers during Covid crisis state government released 1000cr to help 50 lakh farmers Rs 2000 each, said chief minister in Bangalore today. KSRTC's inter-state bus services to resume from tomorrow, initially bus to be operated to Andhra Pradesh. Karnataka high Court declined to entertain plea challenging mandatory wearing of masks. IISc Bangalore has developed online self-assessment tool for workplaces that will help organisations to establish pandemic specific policies and practice.  213 new cases, 180 discharges & two deaths reported yesterday. Total positive cases: 7213, Active cases: 2987, Deaths: 88, Discharges: 4135.
• Andhra Pradesh:  For the FY: 2020-21, AP Finance Minister presenting the budget, proposed an expenditure of Rs. 2,24,789.18 crore, with revenue expenditure estimated at Rs. 1,80,392.65 crore, capital expenditure including loan repayments and other capital disbursements estimated at around Rs. 44,396.54 crore.  The 2020-21 Budget Estimates entail an overall decrease of 1.4 per cent  over the 2019-20 budget estimates on account of major economic slowdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. 193 new cases after testing 15,911 samples with two deaths reported during last 24 hours, 81 discharged. Total cases: 5280, Active: 2341, Recovered: 2851, Deaths: 88.
• Telangana: Experts opine that Telangana govt should rework Covid-19 plan; there is a strong need to set up a committee of public health experts to evolve strategies even as Covid- 19 cases shoot up in Telangana. As on 16th June 5,193 cases reported in the State. 2766 Recovered, 2240 Active and 187 deaths reported.
