Updates on Covid-19 from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Recovery Rate more than 50%; A Total of 1,62,378 Patients cured of COVID-19

With 8,049 COVID-19 patients cured in the last 24 hours, the recovery rate has become more than 50%. A total of 1,62,378 patients, so far, have been cured of COVID-19.Currently, the recovery rate is 50.60%. This indicates that of all the cases of COVID-19, half of them have recovered from the disease. Timely case identification and proper clinical management has been the road to recovery.Currently, 1,49,348 active cases are under medical supervision.

ICMR‘s testing capacity for detecting the novel Coronavirus in infected persons is continuously being ramped up. The number of government labs has been increased to 646 and private labs has been increased to 247 (A total of 893). In the last 24 hours, 1,51,432 samples were tested. The total number of samples tested thus far is 56,58,614.

COVID-19 Updates:Status of Remdesivir

An updated Clinical Management Protocol for COVID-19 has been released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 13th June, 2020 in which the drug Remdesivir has been included as an “investigational therapy” only for restricted emergency use purposes, along with off label use of Tocilizumab and Convalescent Plasma.The said protocol also clearly mentions that the use of these therapies is based on limited available evidence and limited availability at present. Use of Remdesivir under emergency use may be considered in patients with moderate disease (those on oxygen) but with no specified contraindications.Restricted Emergency Use of drugs in the country for treatment of suspected or laboratory confirmed COVID-19 in adults and children hospitalised with severe disease is subject to certain conditions.

Prime Minister reviews India’s fight against Covid-19

Prime Minister NarendraModiyesterday held a detailed meeting with senior ministers and officials to review India’s response to Covid-19 pandemic. The meeting reviewed the national level status and preparation in the context of the pandemic. The meeting also took stock of situation in different states and union territories including Delhi.The present and emerging scenario of the Covid 19 disease in the capital was discussed and the projections for next 2 months were deliberated. Prime Minister suggested that Home Minister and Health Minister should convene an emergency meeting with Lt Governor, Chief Minister of Government of NCT Delhi to plan a coordinated and comprehensive response to handle the challenge posed by rising cases of Covid-19.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chairs meeting to review COVID-19 situation in Delhi

The meeting was attended by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Delhi LG Shri Anil Baijal, CM Shri ArvindKejriwal and AIIMS Director, besides other senior officers. Union Home Minister said the Central Government is committed to check COVID-19 spread in Delhi and keep the national capital safe. He said the Modi Government to immediately provide 500 converted rail coaches to the Delhi Government, adding 8,000 beds for COVID-19 patients. He also said that  COVID-19 testing to double in 2 days and treble in 6 days. Shri Shah said a Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. VK Paul, Member NITI Aayog to ensure the availability of 60% of their Corona beds by private hospitals at lower rates and fix the rate of Corona testing and treatment. The Committee will submit its report by tomorrow.

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar stresses upon the need to increase private investment in the agriculture sector

Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar has emphasized on increasing private investment in the field of agriculture. He said that this will increase prosperity in the agriculture sector, which in turn will increase self-reliance and prosperity in the country. He also called upon scientists to contribute in increasing agricultural production and mitigate difficulties.Shri Tomar said that in the Coronavirus crisis when the wheels of the world economy had slowed down, the Indian farmers produced a bumper crop with the resources available in the rural areas, crop harvesting continued at normal pace during the lockdown, crop production was more than last year and sowing of kharif crops has also been 45 percent more than last year. This shows the resilience of our villages and farmers.

High quality, cost-effective face mask developed at BARC: DrJitendra Singh

High quality Face mask has been developed at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai which is affiliated to Department of Atomic Energy. The mask was developed using HEPA filter and is expected to be cost-effective also.This was stated by Union Minister of State DrJitendra Singh while citing some major achievements of the department during last one year.Hecomplimented the scientific fraternity for coming to the support of society in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the high quality face mask, he informed that the Atomic/Nuclear scientists have also developed the protocol for re-use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) subsequent to radiation sterilization. The SOP for the same is under consideration by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, he added.Identification of new regions to develop RTPCR testing kits has also been accomplished, said DrJitendra Singh.

  • Kerala:Health Minister KK Shailaja said that the state government will decide on making Covid-19 negative certificate mandatory for expats returning on chartered flights after holding talks with PM on Tuesday. The Minister pointed out that Kerala prevented community transmission of Covid-19 so far as only 10% people contracted the disease through community transmission after the relaxations in lockdown. She said that the Health department is actively working to reduce it by 5%. Six Keralites, five in the Gulf and one in Mumbai, have succumbed to the Covid-19. With this, the number of Keralites died in the Gulf countries rose to 225. Yesterday 85 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the state. 1,342 patients are presently undergoing treatment.
  • Tamil Nadu:18 new Covid-19 cases in Puducherry, total tally rises to 194; death toll at 4. TN CM assures coronavirus-affected AIADMK MLA all medical aid. 18 people test positive for Covid-19 in Coimbatore. 1989 new cases, 1362 recoveries & 30 deaths reported yesterday. 1484 cases from Chennai. Total cases: 42687, Active cases: 18878, Deaths: 397, Discharged: 22047, Active cases in Chennai: 14180.
  • Karnataka: Amid speculation, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar says there is no lockdown proposal before the government. Govt intentions are bona fide in banning online classes, says Education Minister Suresh Kumar. 308 new cases, 209 discharges & three deaths reported yesterday. Total positive cases: 6824, Active cases: 3092, Deaths: 81, Discharges: 3648.
  • Andhra Pradesh:  AP assembly secretary issue guidelines amid assembly sessions, denies permission for MLA's staff. BJP leader SubramaniamSwamy tweets on TTD, says petition seeking to get rid the Tirumala Temple from the control of State government is in AP High Court in final stages. 253 new cases reported after testing 15,633 samples with two deaths reported during last 24 hours, 82 discharged. Total cases: 4841, Active: 2034, Recovered: 2723, Deaths: 84.
  • Telangana: District hospitals face 60% doctor shortage amid Covid-19. To transport migrant workers, stranded tourists and students, the South Central Railway has till now run 240 Shramik Special trains to various destinations from the zone. In addition to the originating Shramik trains, the zone is also said to be handling several pass through Shramik specials as well. The total number of cases stands at 4,737, while the total deaths is now 182.Majority of these cases, as per official data, were recorded from within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
  • Maharashtra: The state has reported yet another high spike of 3,427 Covid 19 cases, taking the state tally to 104,568.While Mumbai has been able to restrict the coronavirus spread to some extent, a spike in the caseload in rural parts of the state and districts like Solapur, Aurangabad, Yavatmal, Jalgaon remains a cause of concern for the administration.
  • Gujarat: June has been a month of new peaks for Gujarat in terms of new Covid-19 cases. It crossed the 500- mark in a single day for the first time this month, continuing to rise even further. 517 fresh cases on infection were reported across the state,taking the total number of reported cases to 23,079, while the death toll reached 1,449 with 33 more succumbing to the infection. In 13 days of June, the state has reported 6,285 cases.
  • Rajasthan: The state  registered 131 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday taking the tally to 12,532, while the death toll climbed to 286 with four new fatalities, according to State Health Officials.  Among the fresh cases, 40 were reported from Dholpur, 34 from Bharatpur, 15 from Alwar, 12 from Jaipur.
  • MP: Bhopal Administration has given permission to open religious places for public from Monday. Till date, Bhopal has reported 2,145 COVID-19 cases and 69 deaths. The number pf COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh has reached 10,641  after 198 new cases were detected during the last 24 hours.
  • Chhattisgarh: The state has reported 105 new Covid cases taking the state total to 1,550. The number of active cases in the state is 913.
  • Assam: 43 new COVID19 positive cases in Assam. Total cases 3943, active cases 2127, recovered 1805 and deaths 8.
  • Manipur: To ensure fast testing of all returnees, Manipur Government plans to install a new COVID19 testing equipment which can test 3000 to 4000 samples in a day. Manipur CM chairs COVID19 State Consultative Committee meeting; discusses ways to ensure testing of all the returnees as soon as possible.
  • Mizoram: Mizoram police have booked six youths for supplying drugs and liquor to people in quarantine centres.
  • Nagaland: Mon district administration in Nagaland prohibits public movement within 1 km radius of WangkhaoGovt College and ITI campus after six returnees test COVID19 positive. State Tobacco Control Cell continues identifying tobacco free villages and promoting ban on spitting in public places across the state.
  • Sikkim: Five new cases of COVID19 positive in Sikkim. All of them are returnees, total active cases in the State are 63.
