Updates on Covid-19 from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare:India has one of the lowest cases per lakh population in the world and continues to widen the gap between recovered and active cases

The WHO Situation Report 153 dated 21st June, 2020 shows that India has one of the lowest cases per lakh population in spite of its high population density. India’s cases per lakh population are 30.04 while the global average is more than its triple at 114.67. The US has 671.24 cases per lakh population while the metric for Germany, Spain and Brazil is 583.88, 526.22 and 489.42 respectively.This low figure is thus a testimony to the graded, pre-emptive and pro-active approach the Government of India along with the States/UTs took for the prevention, containment and management of COVID-19.

So far, a total of 2,37,195 patients have been cured of COVID-19. During the last 24 hours, a total of 9,440 COVID-19 patients have been cured. The recovery rate is 55.77% amongst COVID-19 patients.Presently, there are 1,74,387 active cases and all are under active medical supervision. The difference between the recovered patients and the active COVID-19 cases continues to widen, as can be seen from the graph below. Today the number of recovered patients has crossed the number of active patients by 62,808.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chaired a high level meeting where report of Dr. V.K. Paul Committee on containment strategy of COVID-19 in Delhi was presented

Under the directions of the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, a Committee was constituted on 14.06.2020 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Vinod Paul to submit a report on Containment Strategy on COVID-19 for Delhi. Dr. Paul’s report was placed before a meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah yesterday.The main points of the Containment Strategy are: Revised demarcation of containment zones and a strict monitoring and control of activities in such containment zones, Contact Tracing and Quarantining of Contacts of all infected persons, with the help of AarogyaSetu, listing and monitoring of each household even outside containment zones, which will help in getting comprehensive information about Delhi and keep the COVID19 positive cases in hospitals, Covid care centres or home isolation. It also suggestedproper functioning of Covid care centres and taking the help of voluntary organizations/NGOs in this regard.Serological survey to be conducted in all of Delhi from 27.06.2020 to 10.07.2020, in which sample testing will be conducted of 20,000 persons.

Shri Mandaviya inaugurates India's one of the largest 1st Virtual Healthcare & Hygiene EXPO 2020

This is the first ever largest virtual exhibition in India making a new beginning.Speaking at the Inauguration, Minister said that an ecosystem is being built for a self-reliant India, which will help in ramping up domestic production in Pharmaceutical Sector and Health & Hygiene Sector. Health, Hygiene & Sanitation, Medical Textiles & Devices, AYUSH and Wellness sector assume greater significance in our resolute fight against the COVID 19 pandemic. He highlighted various initiatives announced in this direction by the Honourable PM since 2014 such as providing toilets for every household, “Ayushman Bharat” to cover 10 crore family for healthcare, “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan”, “Suvidha Sanitary” Napkin etc.. He also spoke about Jan Aushadhi stores which are providing quality medicines at affordable price for everyone. New opportunities opening up in Food processing sector: HarsimratKaurBadal

Smt. HarsimratKaurBadal, Union FPI Minister launched the Food Processing Edition of the Exclusive Investment Forum by Invest India, the National Investment Promotion & Facilitation Agency of the Government of India today. Union Minister said that due to the COVID pandemic, the sector has seen unique challenges and has been playing a very important role in ensuring that the lockdown was successful. A few challenges that are currently being faced are those related to global trade which has seen a dip along with the dip in domestic demand. Smt. Badal opined that these challenges are leading to opening up of new opportunities such as this exclusive forum which has made it possible for over 180 investors, 6 state governments and the Central government to be at the same place at the same time.

EPFO adds 1.39 crore subscribers in last two financial years

Recently published provisional payroll data by EPFO highlights the ever growing trend of increasing subscriber base for EPFO, since the collation of payroll data from September 2017. Net addition to subscriber base rose from 61.12 lakh added in 2018-19 to 78.58 lakh in 2019-20, registering a 28% growth.Age wise analysis during 2019-20 indicates that for the age group 26-28, 29-35 and beyond 35 the net enrolment has increased by more than 50% compared to previous year. Rapid improvement in quality of service delivery in online mode has attracted the workforce of the country towards services of EPFO. Moreover, PF accumulation is no longer looked at as locked-in money. With EPFO settling COVID-19 advances within 3 days, PF accumulations are now seen as liquid assets that can timely meet the need of the subscribers during crisis.

DrJitendra Singh reviews healthcare facilities in "Aspirational" districts,

Union Minister DrJitendra Singh yesterday reviewed the COVID status and healthcare facility in "Aspirational" districts with special focus on North East. He also disclosed that in the wake of COVID pandemic, the Ministry of North East has decided to sanction Rs.190 crore for augmentation of healthcare facility in the eight North Eastern States, particularly for developing infrastructure for management of infectious diseases.Addressing a Virtual meeting, attended by the Health Secretaries as well as Deputy Commissioners and Health officials of the 14 Aspirational districts of Northeast, DrJitendra Singh said the concept of Aspirational District was based on 49 key indicators, of which the status of healthcare was an important component.The minister also said that the North Eastern States have been given the option to send proposals for health related projects to be funded up to over Rs. 500 crore from North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme.

OPERATION SAMUDRA SETU - INS AIRAVAT EMBARKS INDIAN NATIONALS AT MALDIVES

Indian Naval Ship Airavat entered the port of Male at Maldives yesterday as part of the Indian Navy's ongoing OperationSamudraSetu, under the aegis of the Indian Government's Op Vande Bharat to bring back Indian nationals from foreign shores.A total of 198 Indian citizens embarked the ship as it prepared to bring them home to the port of Tuticorin in Tamilnadu. This is the fifth instance of a naval ship entering Male under Op SamudraSetu. Till date the Indian Navy has brought home 2386 Indians from Maldives alone. 195 of those embarked belong to Tamilnadu while the remaining are from Pondicherry.

• Punjab: The Punjab Government will cap the Covid hospitalisation and treatment rates of private hospitals, and those not adhering to the same will be shut down. Taking strict view of complaints of exorbitant fee being charges by private hospitals, the Chief Minister termed such actions as `anti-people and anti-national’ and warned that the private institutions would not be allowed to indulge in such shameless profiteering at the cost of the lives of people.
• Haryana: Speaking on the occasion of 6th 'International Yoga Day', Haryana Chief Minister said that the State Government had been organizing International Yoga Day at a grand scale every year since 2015 under which district level programmes were also organized apart from the state level programme wherein scores of people collectively performed yoga and also inspired others to adopt Yoga in their life. But this year, due to COVID-19, instead of organizing programmes and events people have been urged to practice Yoga at their homes as this is the only effective way through which we could defeat this pandemic.
• Maharashtra: The current count of COVID19 patients in the state is 1,32,075.

3,870 new patients have been identified as positive during the last 24 hours. Also 1,591 patients have been cured, which takes the total number of recovered patients to 65744. Total active cases stands at 60,147. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation -BMC has launched Mission Zero Rapid Action Plan at ShahajiRajeBhosale Sports Complex, Andheri. "50 mobile dispensary vans will visit Mulund, Bhandup, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar and Kandivali for 2-3 weeks for preliminary examination of patients.”

• Gujarat: Gujarat has reported a steep rise in COVID-19 infections with 580 new cases and 25 deaths on Sunday, bringing its numbers to 27,317 cases and 1,664 deaths. With 655 discharges, the total patients discharged so far are 19,357.
• Rajasthan: 67 new cases reported today, thereby taking the state tally of COVID-19 positive cases to 14,997. However 11,661 patients have recovered and 349 deaths have been reported till date. There are  only 2,987 active cases at present.
• Madhya Pradesh: 179 new patients have been detected positive, taking the state tally of COVID-19 positive cases to 11,903. While 9,015 patients have recovered and 515 deaths have been reported till Sunday, the number of active cases stands at 2373.  The total number of cases in Indore is 4,329 and Bhopal is 2,504.
• Chhattisgarh: A total of 139 new cases have been reported on Sunday, taking the state tally of COVID-19 to 2,273. There are 841 active cases in the state.
• Goa: Goa reported its first COVID death - an 85-year-old man from North Goa. 64 new positive cases have been identified taking the state tally of total cases to 818.
• Kerala: Health Minister K.K.Shylaja has said that Covid-19 has not reached the community spread stage so far in the state and that the decision to not allow those with illnesses to board flights to Kerala from abroad is to ensure the safety of other healthy passengers. Minister for Co-Operation K Surendran said that institutional quarantine centers will be opened at panchayat level. Four persons were arrested at Karipur airport for smuggling gold in chartered flights Meanwhile, one more Keralite has died of Covid-19 in Oman. The state’s Covid case graph also appears to be climbing steadily with new 133 cases reporting yesterday. There are now 1490 active cases in the state.
• Tamil Nadu: New Covid-19 cases in Puducherry fall to 17 as fewer samples tested, tally now 383. With the reporting of 2,532 fresh cases, Tamil Nadu’s covid daily tally hits all-time high; 1438 recoveries & 53 deaths reported on Sunday. 1493 cases from Chennai. Total cases: 59377, Active cases: 25863, Deaths: 757, Discharged: 32754, Samples tested: 861211, Active cases in Chennai: 1783.
• Karnataka: In an emergency meeting called by CM, it was decided that lockdown shall be implemented strictly in the clusters which reported more number of cases, especially, K.R. Market and surrounding areas such as Siddapura, VV Puram, Kalasipalya etc. Stringent action to be taken against those who violate quarantine and FIR to be filed, if necessary. It was also decided to set up fever clinics in all wards. With corona cases rising among police officials and after three police personnel succumbed to Covid in Bangalore, City Police Commissioner ordered all police personnel above 55 years not to report for duty. 453 new cases, 225 discharges & five deaths reported yesterday. Total positive cases: 9150, Active cases: 3391, Deaths: 137, Discharges: 5618.
• Andhra Pradesh: 439 new cases, 151 discharged and five deaths reported yesterday. Total cases: 7059, Active: 3599, Recovered: 3354, Deaths: 106.
• Telangana: Record number of new Covid cases detected, with a staggering majority of them from Hyderabad; 7,802 cases so far, Active 3861, recovered 3731. 22 cases were reported in the state before the lockdown on March 22, 622 during Lockdown 1 between March 23 and April 14. During Lockdown 2 from March 24 to May 3, 438 cases were found, and 439 during Lockdown 3 from May 4 to May 17. The trend continued during Lockdown 4 from May 18 to May 31 which saw 1,147 new cases. During the current Unlock 1, Telangana state has registered 5,104 cases. Telangana govt orders 50 random tests a day in each district as Covid cases spike.
• Meghalaya: Lewduh in Meghalaya reopens today after a gap of more than 2 months due to COVID19 pandemic. Also restaurants, cafés, barber shops and beauty parlours are open.
• Manipur: Tamenglong district in Manipur become the most affected in the State with 101 COVID19 positive cases, followed by Kangpokpi with 95 and Churachandpur with 94.Cumulative number of persons screened at state borders in Manipur since the start of the first lockdown has been 2.76 lakh persons.
• Mizoram: Centre assures full help to Mizoram after earthquake. PM NarendraModi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and DONER Minister Dr.Jitendra Singh talked to CM Zoramthanga on phone today.
• Nagaland: Odd-Even vehicular rule has been enforced in the state capital Kohima in Nagaland to minimize non-essential movement of vehicles. However, vehicles plying on defined essential services exempted.
