Joint Regional Official Language Conference for East and Northeast regions to be held in Guwahati tomorrow

The Joint Regional Official Language Conference and Award Distribution Ceremony of East and Northeast Regions organised by the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India will be held tomorrow in Guwahati. The Conference will be graced by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai. Members of Parliament Shri Dilip Saikia and Smt. Bijuli Kalita Medhi will also be present as distinguished guests in the conference.
Addressing a Press Conference today in Guwahati, Dr. Meenakshi Jolly, Joint Secretary, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs informed that tomorrow's conference will be a joint regional official language conference for both the East and North East regions. The East region includes West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, while the North East region includes Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Joint Secretary added that in tomorrow’s conference, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will give away awards for outstanding work in the field of Official Language under various categories to various offices, banks and undertakings located in these areas. A large number of senior officers from Central Government offices, banks, undertakings etc. will be present in the Conference. Additionally, Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLICs) will be honoured with the TOLIC Rajbhasha Samman. A total of 48 awards will be presented at tomorrow's ceremony, selected based on the Quarterly Progress Reports submitted through the Information Management System.
On this occasion, a special issue of the departmental magazine Rajbhasha Bharti and the alpha version of the multilingual translation software Kanthastha (3.0) for Bhartiya Bhasha Anubhag will also be launched.
Earlier this year, the first regional conference was held on January 4, 2025, in Mysore, Karnataka, followed by the second conference on February 17, 2025, in Jaipur. The primary objective of the conference is to promote the effective implementation of the Official Language Policy across Central Government Offices, Banks, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, and Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLICs) in these regions.
