Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mourns the Untimely Demise of Dr. Engam Pame (IIS), ADG, Shri Nampibou Marinmai (IIS), Director and Shri H. Lianvela, MTS


The Officials Lose Their Lives in a Tragic Road Accident While on Official Duty in Mizoram

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting deeply mourns the untimely demise of three members of the Information and Broadcasting fraternity who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Mizoram on October 1, 2026. The vehicle carrying the officials fell into a gorge while they were on official duty.

The deceased are Dr. Engam Pame, IIS, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communication, Imphal; Shri Nampibou Marinmai, IIS, Director (News), Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Aizawl; and Shri H. Lianvela, MTS, Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office, Aizawl.

The tragic loss of three colleagues has deeply saddened the Ministry. Their untimely demise is a profound loss to their respective organisations and to the larger family of officials and professionals engaged in public communication and information dissemination across the country.

Dr. Engam Pame, 58, joined the Indian Information Service in 1994 after completing his MA in International Relations from the School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. During his more than three decades of service, he served in various capacities in Delhi, Imphal, Pune and Shillong, contributing to government communication, media coordination and public outreach.

As Additional Director General, PIB Imphal, Dr. Pame played an important role in strengthening communication and coordination with media organisations and government departments across the Northeast. One of the longest-serving Information Service Group A officers from the Northeast, he brought extensive field experience and a deep understanding of the region’s diverse communication landscape to his assignments. Dr. Pame belonged to the Zeme Naga community of Tamenglong district, Manipur. He is survived by his wife, Ajuna Pame, and a son and daughter.

Shri Nampibou Marinmai was an Indian Information Service officer and was serving as Director (News), Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Aizawl. He was also Chairman of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC). He had earlier served as Public Relations Officer with the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, where he was associated with defence-related public relations, media reporting and communication.

Through his long association with news and public broadcasting, Shri Nampi made valuable contributions to public communication and information dissemination. His experience in defence public relations and broadcasting enabled him to facilitate communication between institutions and the media. His professional commitment, dedicated service and cordial association with colleagues and media professionals will be remembered with respect. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

Shri H. Lianvela, MTS, CBC Field Office Aizawl, had joined government service in 1998. He was 52 and is survived by his wife, daughter and grandson.

Shri Gojendra Dey, Driver, CBC, Field Office, Aizawl, also sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. He is conscious and under medical care.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stands with the bereaved families, colleagues and friends of the three officials in this hour of profound grief. Their years of dedicated service to the Government and their contribution to public communication will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
