DISTRICT-LEVEL FORENSIC MOBILE VAN NETWORK

The Government has approved the Scheme for Modernization of Forensic Capacities, under which an amount of ₹496.66 crore has been approved for providing Mobile Forensic Vans (MFVs) to all districts and State Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) across the country.

These vans are equipped with modern forensic equipment to facilitate scientific examination of crime scenes and collection of evidence. The facilities available in the MFVs include crime scene documentation, photography/videography, collection of biological and trace evidence, fingerprint development and lifting, preliminary examination of physical evidence, secure preservation of exhibits, and digital documentation, among other essential forensic tools.

So far, 619 Mobile Forensic Vans have been allocated to various States across the country. Operational costs including recruitment of manpower is to be borne by the respective State/UT.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
