The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented Lalit Kala Akademi awards to selected artists of the 65th National Exhibition of Art in New Delhi today (October 21, 2026). She also felicitated Grand Prize winners and Honourable Mentions of the 3rd Print Biennale India, 2026.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that this award presentation ceremony is a celebration of India’s artistic heritage, cultural diversity, and contemporary creativity. Through this event, we are celebrating the rich tradition of India’s diverse arts, its creative energy, and its ever-evolving artistic expressions.

The President said that art is not limited to paintings on a canvas, sculptures carved from stone, or works created through various other mediums. Art is a reflection of our culture. It reflects the memories, experiences of the present, and aspirations for the future. Art enables us to perceive and understand our times and society from a fresh perspective. She emphasised the need to equip traditional artists in remote areas with training in new technologies and contemporary art techniques, enabling them to showcase their skills and participate in competitions on a wider platform.

The President said that in today’s world, artists require not only creative opportunities but also financial support, access to a broader market, and connections with art collectors. She was happy to note that the Lalit Kala Akademi and the Ministry of Culture are making efforts to encourage the sale of artworks.

The President said that art should not be confined to art galleries. It should reach schools, universities, public spaces, and broader segments of society. She urged all stakeholders to provide ample opportunities to young and emerging artists to develop their talent, explore new mediums, and expand their creative potential.
