The Government of India will undertake Special Campaign 6 from 2 October to 31 October 2026, with emphasis on Swachhata (cleanliness) and reduction of pendency in government activities. The campaign will also focus on effective management of records, efficient utilisation of office space and scientific disposal of e-waste generated in government offices.
The annual campaign aims to institutionalise cleanliness practices in government offices and ensure time-bound disposal of pending references. A key area of emphasis during Special Campaign 6 will be the effective collection, segregation and scientific disposal of e-waste.
The campaign is being undertaken in three phases. During the Preparatory Phase from 15 to 30 September 2026, departments are identifying targets for disposal, including pending references from Members of Parliament, State Governments, inter-ministerial references, including Cabinet Notes, references from the PMO, Parliamentary Assurances pending for more than three months, Public Grievances and Appeals. The preparatory phase also includes review of files and records, recording and weeding of files, closure of e-files and identification of scrap and other redundant materials for disposal.
During the Implementation Phase from 2 to 31 October 2026, offices under the Department will undertake cleanliness activities, ensure scientific disposal of e-waste and other redundant materials, and take time-bound action for disposal of pending references.
The Evaluation Phase from 16 to 30 November 2026 will involve assessment and review of the work undertaken and outcomes achieved across Ministries and Departments.
Special Campaign 6 will place particular emphasis on effective collection, segregation and scientific disposal of e-waste generated in government offices. The Department is undertaking preparatory measures to ensure systematic management and environmentally responsible disposal of e-waste during the implementation phase.
During Special Campaign 5, the Department of Commerce comprehensively reviewed 88,385 physical files and weeded out 46,255 physical files. The exercise resulted in freeing up 36,005 sq. ft. of office space through systematic review and record management.
The Department also generated approximately Rs. 70 lakh through disposal of scrap and other redundant materials, while 277 sites were cleaned during the campaign.
Special Campaign 5 strengthened cleanliness, systematic record management, efficient utilisation of office space and responsible disposal of redundant materials across the offices of the Department of Commerce. Special Campaign 6 builds on these efforts with continued emphasis on cleanliness, reduction of pendency, record management, scientific e-waste disposal and efficient utilisation of government office space.
