Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal held meeting with UAE Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, during the 15th UN Congress highlights India’s tech-driven justice system, new criminal laws and global legal cooperation.

India showcased its efforts to build a modern, citizen-focused, tech-enabled and globally connected justice system at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, being held under the theme, “Accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law: Protecting people and planet and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the digital age.”

Addressing the UN Congress, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal highlighted India’s new criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—and their focus on technology, faster justice, forensic investigation and digital-first procedures. He also highlighted India’s digital response to cybercrime through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, enabling faster reporting, fraud prevention and freezing of mule accounts.

Shri Meghwal reiterated India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and stressed the need for global cooperation against terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational wildlife crime, illegal logging, toxic waste dumping and other organised and environmental offences.

It was also highlighted the growing India-UAE legal partnership, particularly in international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. The partnership between India International Arbitration Centre(IIAC) and Dubai International Arbitration Centre(DIAC) is strengthening knowledge exchange, professional training, joint programmes, research and digital dispute-resolution mechanisms. DIAC handles nearly 5,000 cases worth over AED 80 billion (around USD 21.8 billion).

During his visit, Shri Meghwal also met Ms. Monika Juma, Executive Director, UNODC, to discuss cooperation against drugs and organised crime and stronger legal and judicial partnerships.

These developments reflect the deepening India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which now spans trade, investment, energy, technology, defence, education and people-to-people relations, alongside cooperation in law, justice and good governance.

India’s participation in the 15th UN Congress underlines its commitment to modern laws, digital innovation, strong institutions, effective enforcement and meaningful international cooperation—building a justice architecture equipped for a fast-changing digital world.

Effective justice today needs more than laws. It needs technology, skilled institutions, global teamwork and an unwavering commitment to fairness.
