FUNDS TO NFIES

The Government of India has approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) with a total financial outlay of ₹2254.43 crore from financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. Under the scheme, ₹1309.13 crore have been allocated for setting up of 09 campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and ₹860.3 crore for setting up of 07 Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs). Funds to the tune of ₹119.09 crore have been released and utilized under the scheme for the NFSU campuses and for CFSLs. The Scheme is being implemented centrally for creation and strengthening of forensic infrastructure at identified locations.
Under the scheme, setting up of 09 campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) has been approved in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. Further, setting up of 07 Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) has also been approved in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala. 06 CFSLs at Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are to be co-located with the NFSU campus. So far, land for NFSU campus / CFSL has been allotted in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu) and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh).
The NFSU campuses are currently operational from Transit buildings allotted in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu), and Jaipur (Rajasthan). There is no proposal for setting up of CFSL in Andhra Pradesh.
This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
