There should be a marriage between a Poet’s verse and a Composer’s tune to form a great composition, said the master weaver of words Prasoon Joshi at an In-Conversation session, held on the sideline of 53rd International Film Festival of India in Goa today. “The relation between a lyricist and a composer is always symbiotic. Both should always complement each other, ” he said.

Addressing the interactive session on “Art and Craft of Lyric writing”, the renowned poet and lyricist said ‘authenticity’ is one of the most important characteristic of a lyricist. “There is nobody like you. You are unique and unparalleled. One lyricist should always try to write in his own style, using his own words,” he added.

Speaking about the essence of his writing, Prasoon said most of his words emanate from his own soil and culture. “Our upbringing and culture has a deep impact on our writing. I borrow most of my words and metaphors from our regional language and culture. Let the words from our regional language never becomes extinct”, he said.

Talking about implication of AI on writing, the acclaimed lyricist said that however advance AI may be, it can never replace the creativity and intellect of human being.

Deliberating on present days’ vulgar lyrics, Prasoon said as per market philosophy if something doesn’t sale, it will not be made. “The readers and viewers should be equally responsible like the creators”, he asserted.

The In-Conversation session was moderated by Senior Journalist and Writer Anant Vijay.

Prasoon Joshi is a renowned poet, writer, lyricist, screenwriter and communication specialist whose work in Hindi cinema has won him both critical and popular acclaim. He was also conferred with PadmaShri by the Government of India.
