The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Shri Kishor Makwana, was conferred the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Jan Seva Award 2026 in recognition of his dedicated service to the Commission and his contribution towards advancing social justice.

The award was presented during the 16th edition of the Sansad Ratna Awards 2026, held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, in the National Capital here.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy was the Chief Guest while Hon’ble Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar graced the occasion as the Special Guest. The ceremony was presided over by former Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes, Shri Hansraj Ahir. Former Chief Justice Justice B.R. Gavai was also present on the occasion.

The jury of the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee recognized the Commission's dedicated service to the nation and the cause of social justice.

The award citation acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Shri Makwana and highlighted the notable contribution made by the Commission under his leadership.

Shri Makwana was nominated for the award by the Prime Point Foundation and the Sansad Ratna Awards Committee for his dedicated service to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

Under the leadership of Shri Kishor Makwana, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has strengthened its role as an effective institution committed to safeguarding the constitutional rights and interests of Scheduled Castes. The Commission has actively worked towards ensuring justice, rights, dignity and social empowerment for members of the Scheduled Caste communities.

The honour reflects the Commission's continued commitment to protecting the rights of Scheduled Castes and promoting equality, dignity and social justice across the country.
