PARLIAMENT QUESTION: NATIONAL QUANTUM MISSION

Human Resource Development is one of the key mandates of the four Thematic Hubs (T-Hubs) established under National Quantum Mission (NQM) in the area of quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing & metrology and quantum materials & devices. The manpower requirements have been assessed as part of Mission implementation. Accordingly, the four T-Hubs have provisioned scientific and technical manpower, based on approved project requirements.

Under NQM, a total of 86 institutions have been identified across various Mission components for research, technology development and human resource development in quantum technologies. These include institutions associated with the four T-Hubs comprising 14 Technical Groups with 17 Project Teams, 23 Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories and 17 Project Teams under Quantum Algorithms Technical Group. The list of institutions is placed at Annexure-I.

Under the HRD component, the four T-Hubs support Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs), Senior Research Fellowships (SRFs) and Post-Doctoral Fellowships. In addition, the Quantum Computing T-Hub has introduced the QC- Bridge Post-Doctoral Fellowship, while the Quantum Sensing and Metrology T-Hub has launched the PARIMANA Fellowship Programme, for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral students and researchers. 

The Department of Science and Technology has established international collaboration under NQM through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Japan for cooperation in quantum technologies.

This information was given by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology; Earth Sciences and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
