COVID-19 Update

India’s Cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 125.75 Cr

More than 73.67 Lakh doses administered in the last 24 hours

Recovery Rate currently at 98.35%

India's Active Caseload stands at 99,976

Weekly Positivity Rate (0.84%) less than 1% for last 19 days

With the administration of 73,67,230 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 125.75 Cr (1,25,75,05,514) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,30,65,773 sessions.

The break-up of the cumulative figure as per the provisional report till 7 am today include:

The recovery of 8,612 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,40,45,666.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.35%.

Sustained and collaborative efforts by the Centre and the States/UTs continue the trend of less than 50,000 Daily New Cases that is being reported for 159 consecutive days now.

9,216 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

 

India’s Active Caseload presently stands at 99,976. Active cases constitute 0.29% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 11,57,156 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 64.46 Cr (64,46,68,082) cumulative tests.

While testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.84% remains less than 1% for the last 19 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.80%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for last 60 days and below 3% for 95 consecutive days now.

Update on COVID-19 Vaccine Availability in States/UTs

More than 138 Crore vaccine doses provided to States/UTs

More than 22.05 Crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses still available with States/UTs

The Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country. The nationwide COVID 19 vaccination started on 16^th January 2021. The new phase of universalization of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from 21^st June 2021. The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.

As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, Government of India has been supporting the States and UTs by providing them COVID Vaccines free of cost. In the new phase of the universalization of the COVID19 vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75% of the vaccines being produced by the vaccinemanufacturers in the country to States and UTs.

Health Care In Rural Areas

Public Health & Hospital is a State subject, the responsibility of strengthening public healthcare system especially in rural areas including setting up of new hospitals, dissemination of information regarding COVID-19, up gradation and strengthening of existing health facilities lies with the respective State/ UT Governments. The proposals from State/UT Governments are received in the form of Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs) under National Health Mission (NHM) and Government of India provides approval for the proposals in the form of Record of Proceedings (RoPs) as per available resources.

Under National Health Mission, States/UTs in their programme implementation plans have been given flexibility to propose for filling of gaps measured against IPHS including that of services. This is then appraised by the National Programme Co-ordination Committee and as per its recommendations, approved by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

To provide assured access to health care services, Government of India has defined population norm for public health facilities through Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) in rural areas as stated below:

MoHFW have made use of social media platforms, IVRS based platforms, TV, Radio, and other mass media in disseminating information regarding COVID-19 in ruralareas.

Comprehensive guidance note was shared with States/UT for enabling delivery of essential health services during the COVID-19 outbreak covering several important aspects of health systems preparedness including re-organisation of service delivery, human resources, supply of medicines and diagnostics, programme management, etc.

Similarly, the World‟s largest vaccination drive, National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme (NCVP) utilizes the infrastructure and logistic arrangements created under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). The entire immunization programme relies on the platforms created by NHM.

Pandemic Research

A new Scheme “Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM- ABHIM)” has been approved with an outlay of Rs.1347.00 crore for Department of Health Research/Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) towards Bio-security preparedness and Strengthening Pandemic Research and Multi - Sector National Institutions and Platform for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.

Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is also implementing two kinds of the projects for the purpose. Under New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI) Schemes special call for COVID Projects, 6 projects are being implemented. CSIR had given special call to CSIR labs inviting projects related to coronavirus. In this category, 47 projects were supported. An amount of Rs.7299.244/- Lakhs has been allocated for these projects.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), is supporting the implementation of two key programmes, the National Biopharma Mission (NBM) and the Ind-CEPI Mission, which, have enabled the strengthening of the national vaccine development ecosystem, so as to effectively respond to pandemics.

Furthermore, Mission COVID Suraksha- the Indian COVID-19 Vaccine Development Mission‟, was launched as part of the third stimulus package, Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0, for promoting research and development of India COVID-19 vaccines. The Mission is led by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and is implemented by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), at a total cost of Rs. 900 Cr.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), a multi-agency inter-Ministerial Consortium from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), has been established for genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2.

As per Rural Health Statistics, 2019-20, there are 155404 Rural Sub-Centres including 18610 Ayushman Bharat Health & Wellness Centres – Sub Centres (AB-HWC-SCs), 24918 nos. of Rural Primary Health Centres (PHCs) including 16635 AB-HWC-PHCs and 5183 nos. of Community Health Centres (CHCs).

Under Ayushman Bharat, the existing Sub-health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) are being transformed into AB-HWCs to deliver twelve packages of Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) that includes preventive, promotive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative services which is universal, free and close to the community.
