Assam’s rich cultural traditions and heritage find a distinctive representation in the 8th edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction 2026, with a collection of mementos showcasing the State’s renowned handloom traditions, bamboo and cane craftsmanship, metalwork, traditional art and heritage architecture.

The Assam collection brings together objects that reflect both the everyday craftsmanship and the deeper cultural memory of the State. Alongside traditional crafts and artworks, the collection features mementos associated with important historical personalities, cultural institutions and significant moments in Assam’s history.

These mementos offer a glimpse into the skills, traditions and cultural practices that have been passed down through generations and continue to form an important part of Assam’s cultural identity.

The collection also includes representations of Assam’s heritage and cultural institutions, bringing together material traditions with the State’s historical and spiritual legacy. Among the notable mementos are artworks and commemorative pieces associated with Bir Chilarai, Bharat Ratna awardee Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

The collection also includes a representation of the 1894 Patharughat Battle, recalling an important chapter in Assam’s history, along with representations of Bordua Satra and Swahid Smarak Khetra & Park.

The Assam mementos form part of the larger collection of 1,498 mementos offered in the 8th edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction.

The auction provides citizens, collectors, institutions, corporates and art and culture enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire mementos presented to the Prime Minister on various occasions. An accompanying exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi, enables visitors to view the mementos and appreciate their artistic and cultural significance.

The PM Mementos e-Auction is organised by the Ministry of Culture through the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi. The funds raised through the auction are donated to the Namami Gange Programme, a national mission for the conservation and rejuvenation of the River Ganga.

Sati Sadhani Framed Muga Silk Artwork – An artwork depicting Sati Sadhani, the 16th-century Queen of the Chutia Kingdom, rendered in the traditional Ahom Kham style using golden-finished foils and organic colours on Muga silk.

Bamboo and Cane Wall Clock – A handcrafted clock made from natural bamboo and cane, reflecting Assam’s sustainable craftsmanship and traditional artistry.

Eco-Craft Gift Box – Artistry in Water Hyacinth – A collection of handwoven slippers, baskets, a natural-fibre hat and a painting, showcasing how water hyacinth is transformed into sustainable craft products and sources of livelihood for artisans.

Traditional Assamese Japi – Featuring vibrant red and blue patterns, the traditional Japi reflects Assam’s distinctive craft traditions and its longstanding association with hospitality, respect and honour.

Assamese Gamusa – Several traditional Gamusas feature in the collection, showcasing the State’s renowned handloom heritage through intricate red and gold motifs and traditional Assamese designs.

Assamese Brass Xorai – The collection includes several handcrafted brass Xorais, a traditional symbol of hospitality, respect and honour in Assamese culture, showcasing the State’s distinctive bell-metal craftsmanship.

Crafted Wooden Kamakhya Temple Replica – A finely crafted wooden miniature of the historic Kamakhya Temple, capturing its distinctive architectural form and traditional design elements.
