Union Minister Shri C. R. Paatil Reviews Progress of Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation


Emphasised on removal of bottlenecks and timely completion of projects

Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri C. R. Paatil today chaired a review meeting of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation to assess the overall progress of projects, programmes, schemes and initiatives being undertaken by the Department and its various wings and organisations.

During the meeting, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and State Projects (SPR) gave detailed presentation on their ongoing projects and activities.

The discussions focused on the status of ongoing projects, implementation-related challenges, quality of works and measures required to improve their pace and effectiveness. Emphasizing the need for expeditious implementation, the Union Minister directed that bottlenecks affecting the progress of projects be identified and resolved speedily in order to ensure timely completion of projects. The Union Minister further emphasised that timely completion of ongoing projects will not only avoid cost escalations but also provide desired benefits to public timely.

The Union Minister emphasized on streamlining the existing guidelines of the Department and its wings and organizations for formulating Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to make it more effective for project implementation on the ground. He also stressed on use of latest technology for hydrological modernization, making of DPRs, flood forecasting and ground  water management, etc.

He highlighted the importance of stronger coordination between the Centre and the States, calling for closer engagement to facilitate resolution of pending issues and ensure smooth implementation of projects.

He called upon senior officers and heads of the concerned wings and organisations of the department to ensure effective follow-up on the decisions taken during the review and maintain close monitoring  of implementation, with a focus on achieving the desired outcomes within stipulated timelines.
