Ministry of Ayush has undertaken various measures through regulatory bodies i.e. the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH), established under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020 and the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020, respectively, to enhance the quality of medical education in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. The major steps taken during the last three years are annexed as Annexure.
Public Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility for the establishment of new Ayush Educational Institutions comes under the purview of respective State Governments, including Uttarakhand. However, under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM), there is a provision for financial assistance to the State/UT Governments for the establishment of new Ayush colleges where the availability of Ayush teaching institutions is inadequate in Government Sector. Accordingly, States/UTs may avail financial assistance by submitting suitable proposal through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) within the provision of NAM guidelines. However, the State Government of Uttarakhand has not submitted any proposal for establishment of new Ayush Educational Institute through SAAPs for Financial Year 2026-27.
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) an autonomous organisation operates a key research facility in Uttarakhand through its peripheral unit, namely the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) located in Ranikhet (Tarikhet). At present, there is no proposal for the establishment of a new research institute in Uttarakhand.
