Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) was launched on 15th August 2020 by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment in 272 identified most vulnerable districts and now it has been extended to all districts of the country with effect from 15th August 2023. Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan intends to reach out to the masses and spread awareness about substance use.
Till now, through the various activities undertaken on-ground, 26+ crore people including 9.5+ crore youth, 6.47+ crore women and 28,000+ master volunteers have been sensitized on substance use through more than 8.3 lakh activities conducted at various levels including in educational institutions, across the country.
In a significant step towards strengthening the monitoring and implementation framework of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment will launch the upgraded Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) App 2.0. The enhanced application is designed as a centralised digital tool for States / Districts and other stakeholders to facilitate real-time reporting, monitoring, and coordination among implementing agencies at the National, State, District, and institutional levels. The upgraded version builds upon existing capabilities while introducing new features aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and data-driven governance.
The NMBA App, currently accessible to authorised users, supports States, Districts, spiritual organisations and other stakeholders in uploading and tracking activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan through a consolidated dashboard with near real-time visibility. It also serves as a resource platform by providing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials along with basic communication support for Nasha Mukti Mitras to facilitate awareness efforts. The app includes a simple system for onboarding and managing master volunteers (Nasha Mukti Mitr), and enables institutions to organise pledge-taking activities as part of their outreach. In addition, it offers access to key helpline numbers i.e. deaddiction helpline and MANAS helpline, including de-addiction and mental health support services, along with basic technical assistance contacts.
New Features in NMBA App 2.0
In addition to the existing features, the strengthening mechanism for NMBA App 2.0 will also include:
- Now accessible to citizens with features of undertaking e-Pledge, access to IEC material, helpline support and deaddiction centre details.
Dedicated Access for Grant-in-Aid Institutions (GIAs):
- GIAs will now be onboarded onto the platform with role-based access, enabling real-time reporting and monitoring of activities at the deaddiction facilities.
Real time status of Anudan (Grant) for GIA institutions:
- The app incorporates Anudan status of all GIAs accessible to DoSJE, States / UTs and GIAs, ensuring greater transparency, streamlined fund tracking, and enhanced accountability in grant utilisation.
‘Nearest De-addiction Centre’ feature:
- Allows users to identify the nearest de-addiction centre, enabling quicker referral and improved access to treatment services.
Feedback Mechanism:
- Enables public to share feedback for continuous improvement.
The launch of NMBA 2.0 App underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional mechanisms and leveraging digital platforms for effective implementation of drug demand reduction efforts.
