CENTRAL FORENSIC SCIENCES LABORATORIES

Currently 07 (seven) Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) are existing in the country and are located at Chandigarh, Delhi, Kamrup (Assam), Kolkata (West Bengal), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Pune (Maharashtra), and Hyderabad (Telangana). Under the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) establishment of 07 new CFSLs have been approved in Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan at a total outlay of ₹860.3 crore. So far,
land has been allotted by the respective State Governments in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Khordha (Odisha), and Chengalpattu (Tamil Nadu). In addition to the above, another CFSL in Samba (UT of Jammu & Kashmir) has been approved at a total outlay of ₹99.9 crore.
The existing 07 CFSLs are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). A laboratory is accredited only when it is operationalized.
This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
