Jara Sofija Ostan has been awarded the Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Female) for her performance in the Slovenian movie Little Trouble Girls at the 56th International Film Festival of India. The honour includes the Silver Peacock Trophy, a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of ₹10,00,000. The award was presented by CM Goa, Shri. Pramod Sawant and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan in the presence of Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, IFFI Jury Chairperson Shri. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Festival Director Shri. Shekhar Kapur. The Jury noted that her performance conveyed emotion through the smallest, most delicate shifts, a face “read like a book.”

The Jury said: “For her remarkably subtle and deeply expressive performance, we felt we could read her face like a book. Much is said through the simplest, most truthful, tiniest expressions and extremely delicate gestures - inviting us to complete what remains unspoken. In many ways, we become the main character, experiencing her feelings, thoughts and sensations, her awakening from within. Leading us on a small journey that becomes immense: a young girl discovering desire, courage, and ultimately herself. For this extraordinary precision and emotional truth, we honour Jara Sofija Ostan with the Best Actress Award.”

With this recognition, Little Trouble Girls stands among the most quietly powerful performances honoured at the 56th IFFI, a role defined not by volume, but by depth, stillness and internal movement.

Synopsis of Little Trouble Girls

Sixteen-year-old Lucija, a quiet student at a Catholic school in Slovenia, joins her school’s all-girls choir to fulfill her mother’s wishes. She quickly bonds with Ana-Marija, a lively and confident elder student, forming a close friendship that exposes Lucija to new

emotions and experiences. On a spring retreat to a remote convent, Lucija becomes interested in a youthful restoration worker, causing friction with Ana-Marija and disturbing the choir’s harmony. As Lucija explores her sexuality in this strict religious environment, she struggles with shame, confusion and guilt, leading to question her beliefs and her place among her peers.
