Protecting and Preserving Heritage of Monuments

Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remain Act, 1958, (AMASR Act,1958) has provision under section 4 to declare any ancient monument or archaeological site and remains as of national importance. Section 4 of the AMASR Act, 1958, provides that Government may declare any ancient monument or archaeological site and remains to be of national importance depending on archaeological, historical or architectural importance.

A Notification is issued in Gazette of India giving two-month notice, inviting objections from public. After considering the objections received within the stipulated period, the Central Government may declare the ancient monument to be of national importance by publishing a notification in the official Gazette.

A notification to declare following archaeological sites in the State of Haryana has been published in Gazette of India.

(i) Ancient Mound No. VI, at Rakhigarhi, District Hissar (Haryana)

(ii) Ancient Mound No. VII, at Rakhigarhi, District Hissar (Haryana)
