PARLIAMENT QUESTION: SMILE Scheme

The SMILE sub-Scheme on Comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in the act of begging, including children, is being implemented in 81 cities/towns of religious, historical and tourist importance. Till date 7660 persons have been identified of which 970 persons have been rehabilitated, including 352 children. Out of these 352 children, 169 were reunited with their parents, 79 were sent to Anganwadis, 33 were handed over to Child Welfare Committees and 71 were enrolled to schools.
