The National Portal for Transgender Persons provides a platform for transgender person to apply online for transgender identity Certificate and Identity card. The most important feature of this Portal is that it helps the transgender person to get the I- Card without any physical interface and without having to visit any office. Through the Portal, applicant can monitor the status of their application and can download their certificate of identity, thereby ensuring transparency in the process.
The information of number applications for transgender identity certificate and number of transgender identity certificate issued, State wise, is as follows-

In Census 2011 option of male, female and others was provided in gender section. A total of 4,87,803 persons opted for “other”. However this does not confirm that the persons opted for “other” option are only transgender persons.
Several sensitization programmes are conducted for the community. Several training programmes for district level authorities have been conducted by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry, from time to time for increasing the number of applications for TG certificate.
A total number of 3225 applications are pending for more than mandated 30 days’ time to issue the ID card for TG person. The Ministry, through National Institute of Social Defence, organizes sensitization and awareness programme from time to time for district functionaries to reduce the pendency.

For Transgender specific medical service like gender re-assignment surgery it is mandatory to have transgender identity certificate and for general medical service requirement, the transgender persons can avail the service through Ayushman Bharat empanelled hospitals.

The Government has not set up new Garima Greh shelters apart from 12 Garima Grehs. Further, setting up of new Garima Greh is considered as and when requested by State Govt subject to eligibility criteria.
