Widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty wind over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 4 days

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD):
Significant Weather Features
- Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea, a Low Pressure Area has been formed over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to become more marked over North Andaman Sea & neighborhood during next 24 hours. Under its influence:
- Widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty wind is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 4 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls also likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 31st March-01st April, 2021.
- Fishermen are advised not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea on 31st March and over Andaman Sea & adjoining areas of Bay of Bengal on 01st & 02nd April, 2021.
- Under the influence of strong lower level south-westerlies from the Bay of Bengal and other favourable meteorological conditions;
- fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/hailstorm/thunder squall/lightning at isolated places are very likely over Northeast India during 31st March-01st April with maximum activity on 31st March.
- Isolated heavy falls very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 31st March and over Arunachal Pradesh during 31st March-01st April.
- It may cause landslides and inundation of low lying areas at isolated places over south Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram during 31st March-01st April.
- Maximum temperatures are very likely to fall by 3-5°C over the plains of Northwest India during next 2 days leading to abatement of heat wave conditions over Rajasthan from today. Another heat wave spell is likely over the plains of Northwest India from 03rd April, 2021.
- Dust raising Strong Surface Winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are very likely to prevail over Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Strong Surface Winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) over Punjab, north Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal during 31st March-01st April.
- Main Weather Observations
- Rain/Thundershowers observed (during 0830-1730 hours IST of yesterday): at many places over Assam & Meghalaya; at a few places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
- Rainfall recorded (during 0830-1730 hours IST of yesterday) (1 cm or more): Haflong and Imphal-2 each and Pasighat, Shillong and Nancowry-1.
- Thunderstorm observed (from 1730 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hrs IST of today): at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and Manipur.
- Yesterday, heat wave conditions in some pockets with severe heat wave in isolated pockets were observed over West Rajasthan and heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, south West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.
- Maximum Temperature Departures as on 30-03-2021: Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal; at a few places over Punjab and Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places over West Rajasthan, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over East Rajasthan and Vidarbha; at many places over Chhattisgarh and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; at a few places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Bihar, Konkan & Goa and Telangana and at isolated places over Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Marathawada; at many places over Coastal Karnataka; at a few places over Kerala & Mahe. They were markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at a few places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya and at a few places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 44.6°C was reported at Baripada (Odisha) over the country.
- Minimum Temperature Departures as on 30-03-2021: Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over East Rajasthan; at isolated places over West Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh, Gengetic West Bengal, East Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh; at many places over Coastal Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Gujarat Region, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya and Odisha; at isolated places over Jharkhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Kerala & Mahe and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 15.0°C was reported at Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) over the plains of the country.

- Fall in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C over the plains of Northwest India during next 3 days and rise thereafter from 03rd April.
- Fall in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C over Central India during next 3 days.
- No significant change in maximum temperatures over Saurashtra & Kutch during next 24 hours and rise by 2-3°C thereafter.
- Rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during 2-3 days.
- No significant change in maximum temperatures over rest parts of the country during next 5 days.
- Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days from 05th April, 2021 to 07th April, 2021
- Scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Western Himalayan region on 04th & 05th April, 2021. Isolated rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Northeast India, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
- An active Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan region from the night of 05th April and likely to cause fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall /snowfall over the region during 06th-07th. Under the influence of interaction of this Western Disturbance with lower level easterlies from the Bay of Bengal, isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh during 06th- 07th April with maximum activity on 07th April.
- Dry weather likely over rest parts of the country.
Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST) Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea, a Low Pressure Area has been formed over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to become more marked over North Andaman Sea & neighborhood during next 24 hours.
- The Low Pressure Area over southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean has become less marked. However, the associated cyclonic circulation persists over the same region and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
- The cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan & neighborhood extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.
- The trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 92°E to the north of Lat. 22°N persists.
- The cyclonic circulation over west Assam & neighborhood between1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level persists.
- A fresh feeble Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 01st April.
- Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 03rd April.
- Weather Forecast for next 5 days * up to 0830 hours IST of 05th April, 2021
- Fall in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C over the plains of Northwest India during next 3 days and rise thereafter from 03rd April.
- Fall in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C over Central India during next 3 days.
- No significant change in maximum temperatures over Saurashtra & Kutch during next 24 hours and rise by 2-3°C thereafter.
- Rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during 2-3 days.

- Scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Western Himalayan region on 04th & 05th April, 2021. Isolated rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Northeast India, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
- An active Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan region from the night of 05th April and likely to cause fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall /snowfall over the region during 06th-07th. Under the influence of interaction of this Western Disturbance with lower level easterlies from the Bay of Bengal, isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh during 06th- 07th April with maximum activity on 07th April.

- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.

- Squally weather (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely over south Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Strong winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) over Northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha-West Bengal coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
01 April (Day 2):♦ Thunderstorm with lightning, hail & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely at isolated places over east Assam & Meghalaya; with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Kerala & Mahe, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland & Manipur.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.
- Heat Wave Conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Vidarbha, Odisha and Telangana.
- Squally weather (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely over Andaman Sea & adjoining areas of Southeast & East central Bay of Bengal and Comorin area & Gulf of Mannar. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
02 April (Day 3): ♦ Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Sub- Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe.
- Heat Wave Conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Telangana and Saurashtra & Kutch.
- Squally weather (wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) very likely over Andaman Sea & adjoining areas of Bay of Bengal and Comorin area & Gulf of Mannar. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
03 April (Day 4): ♦ Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe.
- Heat Wave Conditions likely in isolated pockets over Saurashtra & Kutch.
- Squally weather (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) likely over north Andaman Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
04 April (Day 5): ♦ Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe.
- Heat Wave Conditions likely in isolated pockets over Saurashtra & Kutch.
