Posted On: 31 AUG 2026 11:00AM

Shimla: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, in close coordination with the Government of Himachal Pradesh, is taking concerted steps to accelerate the implementation of National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 and other major telecom infrastructure projects across the State.

Last month, a high-level coordination meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Secretary, Himachal Pradesh, to facilitate coordinated action for timely implementation of NBM 2.0 and other telecom initiatives.

Under NBM 2.0, emphasis is being laid on expanding Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) and broadband connectivity in rural, remote, hilly, border and uncovered areas, including connectivity to schools, PHCs, Anganwadi Centres and Panchayat offices.

The joint efforts are also focused on expediting BharatNet, 4G Saturation and other Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN)-funded telecom projects. Special attention is being given to resolving bottlenecks relating to Right of Way (RoW), land allotment, electricity connections and OFC laying/restoration, particularly in difficult terrain.

DoT and the State Government are working closely with BSNL, Telecom Service Providers and infrastructure stakeholders to address operational challenges and ensure timely project implementation.

These initiatives will strengthen reliable, resilient and inclusive digital connectivity across Himachal Pradesh and further advance the vision of Digital India, ensuring better access to digital services for citizens, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
