SWACHHATA HI SEVA (17th SEPTEMBER- 2nd OCTOBER 2026)

Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign started in DSIR and its organizations i.e in CEL, NRDC, CSIR and its laboratories across the country on 17th September, 2026 with the Pledge taking ceremony by Dr. (Mrs) N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary, DSIR cum DG, CSIR urging officials and staff to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards cleanliness and hygiene.

Under the guidance of Secretary, DSIR cum DG, CSIR, the nodal officer of the Campaign in the Department, Shri Surinder Pal Singh, Joint Secretary geared up all the organizations under the Department to make the campaign successful. As a part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign, an awareness session on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, was conducted at CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh wherein the key provisions of the SWM Rules, 2026, was explained to the housekeeping and horticulture staff. The four-way segregation of solid waste at source was demonstrated and emphasized the need to shift from the conventional approach of “Collect and Dump” to “Segregate, Process and Recover” for effective and sustainable waste management. As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign, a “Carry Your Own Bag” awareness drive was also organized on September 19, 2026, The initiative aimed to encourage citizens to adopt sustainable practices by carrying reusable bags and reducing the use of single-use plastics. During the drive, a demonstration of four-way source segregation of waste, in accordance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, was also conducted to promote responsible waste disposal and enhancement of public awareness.


As a part of the campaign, a “Safai Mitra Swasthya Shivir” was organised at the CSIR-CIMAP Dispensary on 26 September 2026. Around 50 sanitation workers from CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, and the Staff Colony underwent a comprehensive medical check-up during the camp.

Under Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, thematic art competition was organized for the employees of DSIR in Technology Bhavan. A lecture on “Awareness on Solid Waste Management” was also organized at KV RRL, Jorhat for the students.

’Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ was organized under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign wherein plantations were done with a view to Green India and Clean India.
