The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) continues to strengthen monitoring of Central Sector infrastructure projects through its PAIMANA platform, enabling improved tracking, timely reviews, and data-driven decision-making across Ministries. The portal tracks 1,731 Infrastructure Projects worth of ₹33.60 lakh crore as of August 2026.

 

• 1,731 ongoing infrastructure projects include 715 Mega projects (project cost of ₹1,000 crore & above) with an original cost of ₹25.89 lakh crore, and 1,016 Major projects (project cost below ₹1,000 crore and up to ₹150 crore) amounting to ₹4.83 lakh crore.

• Physical and financial progress broadly move in tandem, with a large number of projects clustered at the initial (0–20%) and advanced (81–100%) stages, indicating a pipeline of newly-started projects alongside many nearing completions. While physical progress exceeds financial progress in the 81–100% range, financial progress is relatively higher in the early stages, reflecting upfront expenditure patterns in project implementation.

 

2.   Ministry/ Departments-wise progress of Infrastructure Projects

 

• Ministry of Road Transport & Highways accounts for the highest number of projects, with 982 projects (57%), and a share of total revised project cost of ₹9.52 lakh crore (28%), highlighting its central role in national infrastructure development.
• Ministry of Railways has 147 ongoing projects (8%), with a total revised project cost of ₹3.14 lakh crore (9%).
• Ministry of Coal accounts for 122 ongoing projects (7%), with a total revised project cost of ₹2.22 lakh crore (7%).
• The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, and the Department of Water Resources, River Development & GR are implementing 117, 102, 49, and 38 projects, with associated revised costs of ₹4.42 lakh crore, ₹6.18 lakh crore, ₹3.41 lakh crore, and ₹2.00 lakh crore, respectively.
• The remaining 174 projects (10%), with a total revised cost of ₹2.71 lakh crore (8%), are distributed across various Ministries/Departments including Higher Education, Civil Aviation, Steel, Telecommunications, Labour & Employment, Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Health & Family Welfare, Mines, DPIIT, and Sports. 3.   Sector-wise (as per DEA’s Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure) Progress of Infrastructure Projects

• Transport & Logistics remains the dominant sector, accounting for 48% of total revised project cost (₹16.05 lakh crore) across 1,191 projects (69% of the total Projects), underscoring the central role of Roads & Highways, Railways, Aviation, Urban Public Transport, Shipping, and Inland Waterways in economic integration and logistics efficiency.
• The Energy sector follows with 32% of aggregated revised cost (₹10.95 lakh crore) across 223 projects, reflecting sustained emphasis on Oil & Gas infrastructure, electricity generation, transmission and distribution networks, and energy storage systems.
• Water & Sanitation projects account for ₹2.04 lakh crore (6%) across 53 projects, highlighting continued focus on essential urban services.
• Communication infrastructure, with a project cost of ₹1.34 lakh crore (4%) across 31 projects, represents targeted interventions aimed at strengthening digital connectivity.
• Social & Commercial infrastructure, comprising 81 projects with a revised project cost of ₹0.97 lakh crore (3%), reflects selective investments in education, healthcare, real estate, and tourism, hospitality and wellness.
• Projects classified under ‘Others’, amounting to ₹2.26 lakh crore (7%) across 152 projects, indicate diversification across sectors such as coal, steel, metals, and mining.

4.   Completed Projects and New Additions

 

• During August 2026, notable commissioned projects include-
  • Project – “6L Greenfield Kandili - Aluru Section of NH-130-CD Road from km 342500 to km 365033 Package-OD-8” (₹1,912.84 crore) and Construction for Mitigation Measures of 10 Nos. Landslides, 01 No. Sinking Zones and 1 No. of Minor Bridge in between at Ch. Km 368.00 to Km 433.00 on NH-07 on EPC Mode in Uttarakhand Package-1 (₹216.68 crore) of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
  • Project – “Haldia Panagarh Pipeline Project (₹1,107) of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

 

• During August 2026, 37 additional projects were brought under the monitoring of PAIMANA. Of these 15 are from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, 10 are from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway, 4 are from Ministry of Power, 4 are from Department of Higher Education, 2 are from Ministry of Steel, 1 is from Ministry of Coal and 1 is from Ministry of Civil Aviation. These include:

• “WR–ER Inter Regional Network Expansion Scheme – Part A (₹ 6,444 crore) of Ministry of Power.
• “Additional Development of Ratna-I [ADR-I] and NLM-14 Project (₹ 6,274 crore) and “Well Head Platforms for MB-OSN-2005/1, SD4 and BS-17 Field (WHPMSBF)” (₹ 5,519 crore) of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
  • “Construction of road from Bomdilla9th Mile- Nafra Lada section of Frontier Highway NH-913 Package 1 9th mile-Nafra 19.554 to 70.00 50.446 (₹ 1,273.44 crore) of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
