NCL Launches Preparatory Phase 'Special Campaign 6.0' Under Ministry of Coal


Campaign Focuses on E-Waste Management, Cleanliness, Records Management and Optimum Utilisation of Unused Spaces

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli based flagship arm of Coal India has launched the preparatory phase of ‘Special Campaign 6’ from 15th September to 30th September, 2026 as per the directions of the Ministry of Coal. The implementation phase of the campaign will be organised from 2nd October to 31st October, 2026.

Under ‘Special Campaign 6’ NCL is emphasising  on effective management and disposal of e-waste, cleanliness, upgradation of office premises, records management, disposal of scrap and optimum utilisation of unused spaces.

As part of the campaign, NCL is aiming to clean 90 identified sites and cover 1,00,000 sq. ft. of area under cleanliness drives. Further, approximately 3,500 metric tonnes of scrap is targeted for disposal.

Apart from this, 400 physical files and 9,000 e-files are targeted for review, facilitating timely disposal of records, better space utilisation and improved efficiency.

Nodal Teams Constituted for Effective Implementation

During the preparatory phase, NCL has appointed nodal teams across its all Areas and Units, which will undertake activities related under the campaign.

Identification of Priority Areas for Cleanliness

As part of the preparatory phase, locations requiring focused cleanliness and maintenance are being identified across NCL. Special cleanliness drives will be organised at identified places with emphasis on maintenance and beautification of surrounding areas.

Under the ‘Adopt-a-Spot’ initiative, cleanliness teams will take responsibility for identified locations and ensure their regular cleaning and maintenance. Plantation and beautification activities will also be undertaken at these locations, wherever required.

Focus on Optimum Utilisation of Spaces and Records Management

As part of the ‘Special Campaign 6’ the company is also identifying  under utilised or unused spaces in offices and other premises and undertake their cleaning, reorganisation and alternative utilisation. Unnecessary files, old furniture, scrap and other obsolete materials will be identified and categorised for reuse, disposal or scrapping.

To streamline records management, old physical records are being scanned and digitised, with proper indexing and archiving. This will facilitate systematic record keeping and better utilisation of available space.

Segregation, Management and Disposal of E-Waste

During the campaign, e-waste, electronic scrap and plastic waste will be assessed, collected and segregated systematically. Safe disposal and recycling of identified e-waste will be ensured.

In line with the concept of ‘Waste to Wealth’, innovative initiatives will also be undertaken to promote the reuse of waste materials and creation of useful resources from them.

Focus on Disposal of Pending Matters and Digital Work Practices

The campaign also focuses on improving efficiency through timely disposal of pending references, grievances and other matters.

Further, 5S/3S-based activities will be encouraged across NCL offices to ensure cleanliness and systematic organisation of workstations, record rooms and common areas. Removal of unnecessary items will help improve workplace organisation, optimise resource utilisation and promote a productive working environment.

To promote awareness, team NCL as well as stakeholders will be involved in various activities. Initiatives such as ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan’, walkathons, shramdaan, street plays, rallies, wall painting, essay writing and quiz competitions will be organised to create awareness about cleanliness, waste management and responsible environmental practices.

Notably, NCL has cleaned 91 sites against target 75, organised cleanliness drives and cleaned 100400 Sq. Ft. against target 85,000 sq. ft., disposed of 3459 metric ton of scrap (target 2500 metric ton) & generated Rs. 16,55,14,888 revenue, reviewed 371 files (target 350) & weeded out 180 files  and reviewed 9800 e-files (target 9000 e-files) and closed 5500 e-files under Special Campaign 5.0.
