Skill Development Programmes for Tribals

Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey informed today in Lok Sabha that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs implements the scheme Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) and Pradhan Mantri Janjati Maha Nyaya Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) through Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation (TRIFED) to facilitate and promote livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurship in the tribal population through establishment of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs). Under PMJVM scheme, 4,172 VDVKs, covering 12.48 lakh beneficiaries have been sanctioned in 28 States/UTs, with a total sanctioned amount of ₹619.17 crore. While under PM-JANMAN scheme, 540 VDVKs, covering 0.46 lakh beneficiaries have been sanctioned in 18 states/UTs, with a total sanctioned amount of ₹23.02 crore. During the last three financial years (2023-24 to 2025-26), 617 VDVKs have been sanctioned under PMJVM and 540 VDVKs under PM JANMAN across various States/ UTs. Through these VDVKs, support has been provided for skill development, capacity building, value addition, processing, plantation, and marketing assistance, alongside the creation of self-employment opportunities and livelihood enhancement.
Additionally, National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), provides concessional loans to the eligible Scheduled Tribe persons for undertaking income generation, self-employment and livelihood activities. In the last five years, NSTFDC has disbursed loans amounting to ₹1648.39 cr to 4,95,090 ST beneficiaries under its various schemes.
