The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) today celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 at the National Zoological Park (NZP), New Delhi, under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”. Around 200 officials of the Ministry, led by Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri Tanmay Kumar, participated in a mass yoga session. Senior officials also planted indigenous and medicinal plant species in the name of their mothers under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

The celebrations featured a series of activities aimed at promoting holistic health, harmony and environmental consciousness. A poster-making competition on the theme “समग्र स्वास्थ्य और सद्भाव” was organised for participants. Dr. Indu, Assistant Professor, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), evaluated the entries and delivered a lecture on the health benefits of yoga. Prizes were awarded to the three best entries, while saplings were distributed to all participants under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

The programme also included a doodle activity and an interactive quiz competition to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage public participation. Visitors took the Mission LiFE Pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards environmentally responsible and sustainable lifestyles.

As part of the day's activities, the Sunday Bird Walk was organised at the National Zoological Park from 6.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. Registered participants spotted 39 bird species during the guided walk conducted by experts, followed by an expert talk.

The celebrations reflected the commitment of MoEFCC and the National Zoological Park towards promoting wellness, environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles while advancing the message of “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” among people of all age groups.
