The Industry-Integrated Skilling Model provides youth with hands-on training in high-tech automotive manufacturing through demand-driven, industry-aligned training programmes and structured practical exposure. In this regard, the following initiatives have been taken:

  1. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is implementing its flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, since 2015 for imparting skill development training through Short-Term Training (STT) and up-skilling and re-skilling through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to youth across the country. The objective of the scheme is to enhance the employability of youth by equipping them with industry-relevant skills including in high-tech automotive manufacturing. PMKVY 4.0 is the latest version of the scheme under implementation since FY 22-23 as a part of Skill India Programme. PMKVY 4.0 is a demand driven scheme.
  2. The Government has taken various steps to strengthen industry linkage and placement outcomes under PMKVY 4.0. The courses under PMKVY are designed by industry-led bodies addressing the requirement of emerging sectors. Training has been imparted in future ready job-roles addressing the requirement of Industry 4.0, emerging sectors like Drone, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Mechatronics, etc. District Skill Development Plans (DSDPs) are prepared by District Skill Committees (DSCs) to analyze skill gaps and map industry demand at the district level, ensuring that PMKVY training courses are aligned with local employment needs.
  3. The Flexi-MoU Scheme was designed in year 2014 to meet the needs of both industry and trainees by allowing enterprises to deliver training as per their specific skill requirements, aligned with market demand and the latest technologies. It provides flexibility to industries to design customized, market-relevant courses, select trainees, conduct assessments, and absorb industry-ready candidates into their workforce.
  4. Directorate General of Training (DGT) implements the Dual System of Training (DST) Scheme, enabling industries to partner with Government and Private ITIs to deliver high-employability courses. DST integrates theoretical training at ITIs with practical training in industry, ensuring hands-on experience with modern technologies.
  5. A mandatory 150 hours of On-the-Job Training (OJT)/group projects has been incorporated into the curricula of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the Craftsmen Training Scheme to provide trainees with an industry-oriented training environment and familiarize them with the latest technologies and practices.

In a major push to deepen India’s digital skilling ecosystem, the MSDE   launched a nationwide Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) awareness campaign titled “Badhna Hai Toh Yahan Judna Hai” on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. As part of its nationwide outreach, the campaign brings on board legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, whose enduring popularity and wide public appeal are expected to further strengthen awareness and participation in Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).

The campaign aims to expand access to the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), which has already onboarded over 1.5 crore candidates. It was implemented through multiple channels, including electronic media, print, outdoor advertising, community radio, and QR-enabled touchpoints for seamless registration.

To extend reach beyond digital platforms, extensive outdoor and on-ground promotions were carried out at high-footfall locations such as railways, metro stations, and residential areas. The campaign was further reinforced through community radio and nationwide regional print media to ensure wider outreach across diverse audience segments.

A Letter of Intent (LoI) has been signed on 15th  February, 2026 between the Government of India and the Government of the French Republic for establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Skilling in Aeronautics and Defence Sector at National Skill Training Institute (NSTI),  Kanpur under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme for promoting and strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and France in the field of skill development and vocational education and training in the aeronautics, space and allied domains.
