TRIBAL FREEDOM FIGHTER MUSEUMS

Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey informed Lok Sabha today that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs had sanctioned 11 Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums (TFFMs) in 10 States on the basis of the proposals received from the State Governments aiming to recognize and create awareness on the sacrifices and contributions of tribal people in India’s freedom movement. These projects were funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme- “Support to Tribal Research Institute” and “Proviso to Article 275(1)” based on the additional requirements and proposals received from State Governments. So far, out of 11 Museums, 04 Museums have been set up in 03 States- (1) Jharkhand, (2) Chhattisgarh and (3) Madhya Pradesh having 02 Museums.
(c)to (f) Out of the remaining 7 museums,construction and curation work of the museums in 05 States- (1) Mizoram, (2) Andhra Pradesh, (3) Telangana, (4) Kerala & (5) Gujarat are currently undergoing and are likely to be set up by the end of 2026. The projects in the state of Goa & Manipur are at primary stage. The State Government of Goa has finalized its Detailed Project Report (DPR) on February, 2025 for initiating further work related to construction of project. In Manipur, the formulation of DPR is currently under process by the State Government.The Ministry conducts regular review meetings and workshops with the
concerned States for overall monitoring of work progress of the museums interspersed with field visits by Ministry Officials and Experts. During the meetings, weekly targets are established and timelines fixed for monitoring and execution of each museum.However,the concerned State Governments are responsible for the selection of land, preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) and construction of these museums.
