18th Mumbai International Film Festival Brings to Delegates Master Classes with Renowned Filmmakers and Artists

The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is thrilled to announce an exceptional lineup of master classes featuring some of the most distinguished personalities in the world of filmmaking and art. From award-winning film editors to visionary directors and innovative animators, MIFF promises an unparalleled learning experience for aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts alike.
The 18th edition of the prestigious International Film Festival (MIFF), is all set to take place from 15thJune to 21st June at NFDC-Films Division premises at Peddar Road in Mumbai. All Masterclasses will be organized at J.B. (J. Bhavnagary) Hall within the same venue. Here is a look at what is in store for MIFF 2024 Delegates -
- Alphonse Roy - Documentaries on Conservation Initiatives and Indian Wildlife

Alphonse Roy's illustrious career spans multiple disciplines, with notable achievements in film, television, commercials, and music. A graduate of the prestigious Film & TV Institute of Tamil Nadu, Roy has lent his expertise to acclaimed films such as "Gour Hari Dastaan," "Life is Good," and "Urumi". Roy has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and honors, including a Primetime Emmy for "Tibet: The End Of Time" and a Hugo Television Award for "Tiger Kill”. He has also earned critical acclaim for his work, receiving a Filmfare nomination for "Aamir".
Through his Master Class on Conservation Documentaries and Indian Wildlife, Roy will highlight how films illuminate environmental issues, wildlife habitats, and the work of conservationists. With his extensive experience in hosting, voiceover, and cinematography, Roy will shed light on the importance of documentaries in raising awareness about environmental issues and showcasing India's rich biodiversity.
- Georges Schwizgebel - Exploring Animation: Music, Cycles, and Metamorphoses

Step into the mesmerizing world of animation with esteemed Animation Director Georges Schwizgebel. His debut film, "The Flight of Icarus," served as a launchpad for his remarkable career, which now boasts an impressive portfolio of 20 award-winning films.
Throughout his career, Schwizgebel has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the Honorary Cristal of the Annecy festival, the Swiss Film Award of Honor, and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Zagreb Animafest. He is also recognized as a member of the Oscar's Academy and has been bestowed the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.
His Master Class on Music, Movement, and Metamorphoses will be an immersive session on Schwizgebel's areas of expertise, including his fascination with music, cycles, movements in space, and metamorphoses.
- Ollie Huddleston - Master Class on Editing: Shaping Characters

Join acclaimed film editor Ollie Huddleston for an immersive master class on the craft of editing. With over 30 years of experience and multiple awards to his name and with two BAFTA nominations and two Royal Television Society awards under his belt, Ollie Huddleston brings a wealth of expertise and insight to the art of film editing. His notable works, including "Sisters in Law," "Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go," "The Liberace of Baghdad," "Rough Aunties," and "Dreamcatcher" have garnered international acclaim, earning prestigious accolades from several film festivals including Cannes, IDFA, and Sundance.
His ‘Master Class on Editing - Shaping Characters’ will explore the intricacies of crafting compelling characters through the lens of film editing. Through a combination of expert coaching, hands-on demonstrations, and in-depth discussions, participants can expect to explore various aspects of editing, including character development, story structure, and the art of visual storytelling.
- Nemil Shah - Harnessing the Power of Short Films for Social Change

Celebrated filmamker Nemil Shah, known for his innovative work in films and video installation, is set to headline a master class on the transformative potential of short films. Nemil Shah's remarkable journey in the world of cinema includes numerous accolades and achievements. His debut short film, "Dal Bhat," garnered widespread acclaim, winning the prestigious National Film Award and earning recognition as an official entry to the Oscars.
Don’t miss his Master Class on Short Films and Social Change, where he will delve into the profound impact that short films can have on society. Nemil Shah will share his expertise in leveraging short films as potent tools for social commentary and activism.
- Audrius Stonys - The Art of Storytelling: Creativity and Uniqueness

As a distinguished film director, producer, and professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Stonys has left an indelible mark on the global cinematic landscape. A Doctor of Arts and a recipient of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Award, Stonys's contributions to the art of filmmaking have been celebrated and honored worldwide.
In 1992, Stonys's groundbreaking documentary film, "Earth of the Blind," captivated audiences and critics alike, earning the prestigious recognition of the European Film Academy as the Best European Documentary Film of the Year. Since 1989, Stonys has continued to push the boundaries of creativity, producing over 20 internationally acclaimed feature films and more than 400 television documentaries.
Through his Master Class on Storytelling and Creativity, Stonys will share his insights on crafting compelling narratives and leveraging innovative techniques to inspire and engage listeners.
