Over 5 Lakh Villages Become ‘ODF Plus Villages’ with Creation of Various Solid Liquid Waste Management Assets

SBM(G) Phase-II is being implemented w.e.f. 2020-21 with the focus on ODF sustainability and to make Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) arrangements in all villages of the country i.e. to transform the villages from ODF to ODF Plus, by 2024-25. The following community level SLWM activities are funded under SBM(G) Phase-II:
- Management of bio-degradable wastes through composting or bio-gas plants.
- Construction of storage/segregation centre for non-biodegradable (Plastic) waste.
- Setting up of Plastic Waste Management Units at block/district level.
- Management of grey water through soak pits/leach pits/magic pits, wherever possible, or through other grey water management technologies such as Waste Stabilization Ponds, Constructed Wetlands, etc. wherever required & feasible.
- Faecal Sludge Management (FSM), wherever needed, through co-treatment in existing Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)/Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) facilities in nearby urban/rural areas or trenching or by setting up of FSTP.
State/UT-wise number of Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus villages in the country are at Annexure-1. State/UT wise details of various SLWM assets created under SBM(G) Phase-II is at Annexure-2.
Under SBM(G), funds are released to the States/UTs on a consolidated manner for all the components. State/UT-wise details of allocation and release under SBM(G) phase-II are given at Annexure-3.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
