The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today urged young civil servants to exemplify their conduct through modesty, virtuosity and openness in the execution of their roles. Emphasising that their imprint on society would be indelible, the Vice-President urged them to be “motivational, inspirational and epicentres of change” as citizens would look up to them as role models.
Addressing 2021 batch Officer Trainees of the Indian Administrative Service at the Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas today, the Vice-President emphasised that they were entering public service at a juncture where transformative changes were taking place in the country. Highlighting the significance of civil servants as critical human resource for national progress, he stressed that their contributions in Amrit Kaal would prove to be a game-changer.
Lauding the enabling ecosystem of government initiatives prevalent in the country, the Vice-President said that every young person in this current scenario can realise his or her dreams and aspirations. He also drew attention to recent achievements of the nation, such as the passing of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam after repeated attempts, and the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar south pole.
Referring to the Officers as “footsoldiers of Bharat@2047”, he stressed that by steering governance and participating in decision-making, they would be serving their motherland for larger global welfare.
Noting that there was a time when corruption was the norm, the Vice-President mentioned that “power corridors have been sanitised of power brokers”. He underlined that Officers today have a mechanism where rule of law, accountability and transparency are the guiding principles, which would enable them to deliver effectively for larger public good.
Secretary to the Vice-President, Shri Sunil Kumar Gupta, Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Smt. S. Radha Chauhan, Additional Secretary, Shri Rahul Singh and other senior officers were also present at the event.
