Women Reservtion In Parliament And State Assemblies
Posted On:
24 MAR 2022 4:35PM by PIB Delhi
A statement showing the details of percentage of women elected to Parliament of India and different State Assemblies is enclosed as Annexure-A. Further, a statement regarding percentage of women elected in recently concluded Legislative Assembly Elections of 5 States has also been enclosed as Annexure-B. However, the Government has not maintained any such data relating to India’s position in comparison to other countries having Parliamentary democracies in this regard.
Gender justice is an important commitment of the Government. The issue involved needs careful consideration on the basis of the consensus among all political parties before a Bill for amendment in the Constitution is brought before Parliament.
This information was given by Shri Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister, Ministry of Law and Justice, in Rajya Sabha today.
