Utilisation of Funds Allocated Under NHM

Central assistance released to the States/UTs under National Health Mission (NHM) since its inception during 2013-14 to 2020-21 is as follows:

  1. FY 2013-14: Rs.17,407.39 crore
  2. FY 2014-15: Rs.18,288.50 crore
  3. FY 2015-16: Rs.18,065.50 crore
  4. FY 2016-17: Rs.18,424.43 crore
  5. FY 2017-18: Rs.25,465.28 crore
  6. FY 2018-19: Rs.24,998.81 crore
  7. FY 2019-20: Rs.28,939.64 crore
  8. FY 2020-21: Rs.29,455.72 crore

 

The Government has continued to allocate more funds to strengthen the National Health Mission (NHM). Allocation to NHM has increased from Rs.27,989 crore in 2020-21 BE to Rs.31,100 crore in 2021-22 BE.

 

Further, the National Health Policy, 2017, also envisages the States to increase their health spending to at least 8% of their budget and two thirds of such expenditure should be on primary care. In addition, as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under NHM, States are required to increase their State Health Budget by at least 10% annually. 

It is the State Governments that establish the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Financial and technical support is provided to the States/UTs under NHM for strengthening the healthcare system including setting up of Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). As per the Rural Health Statistics (RHS) 2019-20, number of PHCs and CHCs as on 31st March, 2020, State/UT-wise including Uttar Pradesh is at Annexure.

1. Telangana came to existence in 2014 after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh

   

2. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh bifurcated and became UTs during Aug 2019
