Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, along with Chief Minister (NCT Delhi), Smt. Rekha Gupta, today undertook a detailed on-ground review of the air pollution mitigation measures being undertaken by Government of NCT Delhi at the major hotspot of Anand Vihar. The dignitaries also visited the AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) at Shastri Park.

During the review, the dignitaries virtually inaugurated public EV charging stations at ISBT Anand Vihar, Nand Nagri depot, Rohini Sector-37 depot, Nangloi depot and Keshopur depot in Delhi, along with flagging-off 150 new electric buses at Swami Vivekanand ISBT, Anand Vihar. The Ministers also inaugurated 13 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) installed by DPCC across Delhi. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Minister for Environment, Forest & Wildlife (GNCTD), Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Minister for Transport (GNCTD), Shri Harsh Malhotra, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), East Delhi and Union MoS (Road Transport and Highways), besides senior officials from the Union and NCT Delhi Governments.

During the visit to Anand Vihar ISBT, the Ministers were informed that Anand Vihar had become a major air pollution hotspot area due to traffic congestion, traffic of commuting buses at bus terminal, road dust along roadsides, road dust emanating from rom unpaved roads and roadsides, potholes, unpaved parking and incomplete paving of the terminal, construction and demolition activities, garbage and plastic dumping, along with open burning of waste.

Detailing the air pollution mitigation measures undertaken at the hotspot, Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav informed the media that short term and long term actions were assigned to 11 agencies. Internal roads have been paved, encroachment has been removed, construction activities followed green netting and dust control measures, illegal C&D waste dumping has been removed and traffic congestion has been removed. Long term measures such as greening activities are being taken up at the location. He highlighted that with the concerted efforts from various departments of Delhi, the persistent issue of air pollution at this hotspot has now been contained.

The dignitaries then visited the AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) at Shastri Park. The ICCC is designed to serve as a unified digital platform integrating data on air quality, dust-control sites, ambient noise levels, industrial emissions, stubble-burning incidents, citizen grievances, and enforcement vehicles, thereby enabling real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and coordinated enforcement actions across agencies. The ICCC is designed to integrate 15 external data systems, of which 9 have been integrated and the remaining 6 are being connected in phases.

During the visit, the Union Environment Minister and CM (NCT Delhi) virtually inaugurated 13 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) installed by DPCC across Delhi. These are located at SKV Ghummanhera, GBSSS Chhawla, GBSSS Karala, GGSSS Hastsal, GBSSS Jharoda Kalan, DJB Ghoga, DJB Burari, DTL Tikri Kalan, NIH Narela, AIIMS-CAPFIMS Maidan Garhi, Maharaja Surajmal Stadium Nangloi, Maharaja Agrasen College Vasundhara Enclave and ljiNTPC Eco Park Badarpur. These stations will provide continuous, time-resolved air quality and meteorological data to support scientific assessment, regulatory enforcement and public dissemination of AQI.

Briefing the media on the occasion, Shri Yadav informed that in addition to the existing population-based norms, air quality monitoring stations have now been installed at one station per 25 sq km (5 km × 5 km grid) in Delhi, and this grid would be expanded further in other NCR cities. It was added that coverage in peri-urban and suburban areas is critical for assessing the inflow and outflow of pollution. It was highlighted that Delhi had 47 existing CAAQMS operated by various agencies namely, DPCC, CPCB, IMD, IITM and MoHUA. The Minister informed that with the addition of 13 new CAAQMS, the network has now been expanded to 60 stations providing realtime air quality data through CPCB server as well as SAMEER mobile app.

Shri Yadav congratulated the Chief Minister, GNCTD and officials of Delhi Government for augmenting the public transport through E-mobility, eliminating the Anand Vihar Air Pollution Hotspot area through coordinated efforts and inaugurating the new CAAQMS and connecting to ICCC for improved air quality monitoring.
