The Ministry of Jal Shakti, under the leadership of the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri C R Patil and Minister of State, Shri V. Somanna, organized a large-scale Shramdaan activity today at 7:30 AM at Kalindi Kunj Ghat, Okhla Barrage in New Delhi as part of the nationwide campaign for Shramdaan activity under Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026-Nirantar Prayas.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri C. R. Patil, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, recalled the emphasis given by Mahatma Gandhi to “Swachhata” along with “Swantantra”, which continues to guide the nation. He told that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi, the Swachhata Andolan has achieved new heights. He expressed gratitude towards the efforts of Safai-Mitras who with their dedication help to keep the country clean. The minister also urged the citizens to make Swachhata a collective responsibility by ensuring cleanliness in their surroundings. He emphasized that cleanliness is not just a periodic event but a continuous commitment towards maintaining clean environment and river conservation.

Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Shri Ashok K.K. Meena, in his welcome address stated that the Shramdaan is a part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. He reiterated that Jan Bhagidari has been an important principle of Swachhata Andolan, hence today’s shramdaan is another step towards bringing the community together, to reaffirm our commitment to Swachhata.

 

Secretary, DoWR, RD & GR, Smt. Archana Varma alongwith other senior officers and staff of the Department spearheaded the cleanliness drive.

The Shramdaan saw active participation of Senior officers& staff of 16 organizations of the Department including CWC, NMCG, NWDA, CSMRS, NDSA, NRCD, NWIC, NWM, UYRB, GFCC, CWMA, and WAPCOS, etc. More than 1,100 officials and volunteers under the Ministry of Jal Shakti actively participated in the cleanliness drive and helped in removing plastic waste, debris, and riverbank litteracross the Kalindi Kunj Ghat area. This cleanliness drive will be a continued effort leading to Swachh Bharat-Viksit Bharat.
