Ministry of Law and Justice Celebrates National Sports Day 2026 with Two Day Sports Meet


Over 300 officers and employees participate in sporting events organised in the spirit of the Fit India Movement

Marking National Sports Day 2026 and carrying forward the spirit of the Fit India Movement, the Legislative Department and the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, jointly organised a two day sports meet on 1 and 2 September 2026 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The celebration brought together more than 300 officers and employees in a shared effort to promote fitness, active living, teamwork and a culture of wellbeing in the workplace.

The programme reflected the larger message of National Sports Day that sport is not only about competition, but also about building healthier habits, stronger teams and a more energetic and engaged workforce.

More than 300 officers and employees of the Legislative Department and the Department of Legal Affairs, including personnel from Vidhi Sahitya Prakashan and the Official Languages Wing, participated enthusiastically in the two day event.

A wide range of sporting events for men and women was organised, including:

  1. Women’s Cricket
  2. Men’s Cricket, Leather Ball
  3. Men’s Cricket, Tennis Ball
  4. 100 Metre Race for Men and Women
  5. Tug of War for Men’s and Women’s Teams
  6. Lemon Race for Women
  7. Ball Throw for Women

The events witnessed spirited participation across different levels of the two Departments and brought officers and employees together beyond their regular workplace roles. The competitions reflected the values associated with sport, including fitness, discipline, teamwork, resilience, camaraderie and healthy competition.

The two day celebration concluded on 2 September 2026 with a felicitation and prize distribution ceremony.

The winners and participants were presented awards, trophies and medals in recognition of their sporting achievements and enthusiastic participation by Dr Manoj Kumar, Additional Secretary, Legislative Department, along with other senior officers and officials of the Legislative Department including Smt Renu Sinha, Shri G. Panmei and Shri Ashwani, Joint Secretaries & Legislative Counsels.

Interacting with the participants, Dr Manoj Kumar appreciated the enthusiasm, energy and sporting spirit displayed during the two day event. Referring to the vision of the Fit India Movement, he emphasised the need to make fitness and physical activity a part of everyday life. He observed that sports contribute not only to physical wellbeing, but also build discipline, resilience, teamwork and collective spirit, qualities that strengthen both individuals and institutions and are particularly valuable in public service.

The enthusiastic participation of more than 300 officers and employees reflected the Ministry’s commitment to carrying forward the spirit of National Sports Day and the Fit India Movement by promoting fitness, wellbeing and a strong culture of teamwork.
