For thousands of talented students from economically disadvantaged families, gaining admission to a premier institution is only the beginning of their journey. The high cost of higher education often becomes a significant obstacle to fulfilling their aspirations.

Demonstrating how targeted financial assistance can transform lives, Rajan Kumar, a 25-year-old student from the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, successfully completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with support under the PM-YASASVI Scheme – Top Class Education for OBC, EBC and DNT Students.

Coming from a humble family with limited financial resources, Rajan always aspired to pursue management education from a reputed business school. Through consistent hard work and determination, he secured an impressive 99.5 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) and earned admission to a prestigious MBA programme. However, the high tuition fees posed a serious financial challenge for his family, whose limited income made it difficult to bear the cost of higher education while meeting day-to-day household expenses.

Recognising the importance of supporting meritorious students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment extended financial assistance of ₹15.51 lakh to Rajan under the PM-YASASVI Scheme during 2024–2026. The scholarship removed the financial barriers to his education and enabled him to continue his studies without interruption.

Reflecting on his journey, Rajan Kumar said:

"Receiving the PM-YASASVI scholarship changed my life. It not only supported me financially but also gave me the confidence to believe that my dreams matter. The scholarship eased the burden on my parents and allowed me to focus on my studies, projects and career preparation without constantly worrying about education expenses. PM-YASASVI is more than financial assistance—it creates opportunities for talented students from low-income families to pursue quality education with dignity and confidence."

Building Skills and Preparing for a Successful Career

With the financial burden significantly reduced, Rajan was able to devote his complete attention to academics and professional development. During his MBA, he actively participated in academic presentations, management projects and skill development programmes. He also earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and undertook projects in finance, equity research and management, strengthening his professional competencies and career prospects.

The success of Rajan Kumar demonstrates how the PM-YASASVI Scheme for Top Class Education for OBC, EBC and DNT Students is enabling deserving students from disadvantaged communities to pursue higher education in premier institutions. By removing financial barriers and promoting educational excellence, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment continues to empower young minds, create opportunities for social mobility and build a more inclusive and skilled India.
