Access to quality higher education has the power to transform lives by opening doors to better career opportunities and economic mobility. However, for many meritorious students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities, financial constraints often become a major barrier to pursuing education at India's premier institutions.

Demonstrating the transformative impact of the Top Class Education Scheme for OBC, EBC and DNT Students, Mritunjay Singh, an Other Backward Class (OBC) student, successfully completed his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh and today serves as a Senior Manager at VXpress, a division of VTrans India Pvt. Ltd.

Coming from a family that strongly valued education despite limited financial resources, Mritunjay aspired to build a successful professional career and contribute meaningfully to society. At the time of joining the MBA programme, his family's annual income was approximately 2 lakh, making it extremely difficult to meet the high cost of management education. Despite these financial challenges, he remained committed to academic excellence and professional growth.

Recognising his potential, the Top Class Education Scheme extended scholarship assistance to support his higher education. He received 7.85 lakh for the first year of his MBA in March 2025 and 7.66 lakh for the second year in January 2026. The scholarship significantly reduced the financial burden on his family and enabled him to devote his full attention to academics, skill development and career preparation.

From Scholarship Support to Professional Success

With uninterrupted access to quality education, Mritunjay successfully completed his MBA from IIM Sirmaur Himachal Pradesh and secured employment as a Senior Manager at VXpress (A Division of VTrans India Pvt. Ltd.). His annual income has increased by approximately 12 lakh, marking a remarkable improvement in his family's economic condition and reflecting the transformative impact of the scheme.

Reflecting on his journey, Mritunjay Singh said:

"The scholarship support eased the financial burden on my family and gave me the confidence to focus completely on my education and career. It enabled me to pursue my MBA without financial stress and motivated me to work harder towards my professional goals. Today, I am proud to have built a successful career, and I remain grateful for the support that made this journey possible."

Mritunjay Singh's success story highlights how the Top Class Education Scheme for OBC, EBC and DNT Students is enabling deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access quality education at premier institutions, develop professional capabilities and secure meaningful employment. By investing in education, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment continues to empower talented youth, promote social mobility and build an inclusive and self-reliant India.
