Funds For Dredging In Ports

The Sagarmala is the flagship Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to promote port-led development in the country. Under Sagarmala Scheme, Ministry provide financial assistance to State Governments for Port infrastructure projects, Coastal berth projects including dredging, Road & Rail projects, fish harbours, skill development projects, Coastal community development, cruise terminal and projects such as Ro-Pax ferry services etc. Ports other than Major Ports (Non- Major Ports) are under the administrative control of the respective State Government. Based on the request received from State Government along with necessary documents, projects are taken up under Sagarmala Scheme in terms of Sagarmala Funding guidelines and instructions of Ministry of Finance on appraisal and approval of projects. At present there is no proposal from State Government with respect to infrastructure at Beypore port under Sagarmala Scheme.

Government of Kerala has informed that Beypore Port has 340 M long wharf. Port is provided with 3 fixed cranes, 5 mobile cranes, 1 container handling crane, 2 reach stackers and 3 Tugs for smooth shipping operations. Govt. of Kerala has taken steps to further develop Beypore Port for handling of more passengers and cargo. The steps include Capital Dredging for berthing bigger vessels, increasing the length of existing wharf, acquisition of land for constructing go down & cargo handling facility and connectivity.
