“I believe if one watches the film Godavari in 2070, it should give an idea on how river Godavari was in 2020. That way, I want films to be the snapshots of time and place,” said Nikhil Mahajan, Director Godavari at IFFI 52, in Panaji, Goa today.
“Our film is a tribute to one of the most talented filmmakers of our time Nishikant Kamat. He was very close to all of us. I and Jitendra Joshi (who is in lead role) decided on that day that we will make a film on this. This is my third feature film after Pune-52 and Baji,” added Shri Mahajan.
The film starts in the backdrop of the protagonist coming to realize about his impending death. Godavari portrays this journey of the character who starts preparing for his family’s future and preserve the traditions.
“Rivers are lifelines, they create civilization and Godavari is one such river. It is very sacred and important river and people believe there is something magical about this river. I got to see Godavari for the first time for this movie. It was a great experience to see a completely new city and to portray it in a movie”, noted Mahajan.
