Under the Anganwadi Services Scheme there is a provision of providing growth monitoring and home visit services on a regular basis to the registered beneficiaries through Anganwadi Workers. In order to ensure growth monitoring of children and home visits, an incentive of Rs. 500 and Rs. 250 is provided per month to Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs). The State/UT wise details of growth monitoring of children is at Annexure I. State/UT wise details of ICDS implementation progress is at Annexure II (A to E).
Malnutrition in the country is assessed periodically by specialised National Family Health Survey (NFHS) being conducted by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare with International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) being the nodal agency for conducting the surveys using a standardized methodology. NFHS – 4 and 5 were conducted during 2015-16 and 2019-20 respectively. However, the recently released report of NFHS-5 (2019-20) is available for 22 States/UTs. Further, the Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey (CNNS) was also conducted by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare during the year 2016-18.
Several initiatives were taken by MoWCD to ensure delivery of services under Anganwadi Services Scheme to the target beneficiaries. The Ministry issued guidelines on Quality Assurance, Roles and Responsibilities of Duty Holders, procedure for procurement, integrating AYUSH concepts and Data Management and Monitoring through 'Poshan Tracker' for transparency, efficiency and accountability in delivery of Supplementary Nutrition on 13th January, 2021.
During the pandemic, as per the MHA guidelines, all Anganwadi Centres across the country were closed to limit the impact of COVID-19. However, to ensure continuous nutritional support to Anganwadi beneficiaries, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers distributed Supplementary Nutrition at the doorsteps of beneficiaries once in 15 days and have distributed medicines as per requirement. Annexure attached.
This information was given by the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
