Early Life and Challenges

Sumit’s life took a drastic turn after a tragic accident on his way home from a coaching class. The promising wrestler from Sonipat lost his leg in the incident, a devastating blow that could have ended his athletic career. However, Sumit's indomitable spirit refused to let this setback define him. Supported by his father's service in the Indian Air Force, Sumit received treatment at the Army Hospital, where a prosthetic leg was fitted on his left lower limb.

Initially, the transition to a life with a prosthesis was challenging. The young athlete struggled with pain and a sense of loss. But fate intervened when Sumit met Rajkumar, a para-athlete from his village. Rajkumar introduced him to the world of Para Games, reigniting the fire within Sumit. With the unwavering support of his family and friends, Sumit dedicated himself to his new path, committing to daily training and self-improvement.

Unmatched Record

A series of extraordinary victories have marked Sumit Antil's journey in para-athletics. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, he clinched a gold medal with a world record throw, catapulting him into the global spotlight. He continued his winning streak at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, where he shattered his own world record with a phenomenal throw of 73.29 meters. His dominance extended to the World Para Athletics Championships in 2023 and 2024, where he claimed gold medals, further solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest para-athletes of his time.
