The National Academy of Direct Taxes – Regional Campus (NADT-RC), Mumbai, conducted a joint training session for officers of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department and the Income Tax Department on ‘Profits and Gains of Business or Profession’ on 6 November 2026.
The programme was organised pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) executed between the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) in September 2025, envisaging cooperation in academic activities, training, capacity building and research in areas of mutual interest.
The session was attended by 10 Assistant Audit Officers/Senior Audit Officers posted under the Principal Director of Audit (Central), Mumbai, along with Income Tax Inspectors from the Mumbai and Pune regions. It covered the fundamental provisions relating to business and professional income, with particular emphasis on a comparative analysis of the corresponding provisions under the Income-tax Act, 1961 and the Income-tax Act, 2025.
The specialised training module was conceptualised and curated through the initiative of Shri Navneet Manohar, Principal Additional Director General, NADT-RC, Mumbai, with the objective of leveraging the Academy’s domain expertise and training infrastructure to enhance the technical knowledge and professional competencies of CAG officers. The initiative marks a concrete step towards operationalising the CBDT–CAG MoU in the Mumbai region and fostering a common understanding of tax-related issues through institutional knowledge exchange.
Building on this initiative, NADT-RC, Mumbai, plans to organise further specialised training modules on important areas such as Capital Gains Taxation, International Taxation and Transfer Pricing. These programmes will provide a sustained platform for collaborative learning and professional capacity building.
Through this initiative, NADT-RC, Mumbai, reaffirms its commitment to extending its capacity-building mandate beyond the Income Tax Department and contributing to professional excellence across public institutions.
