The National Academy of Direct Taxes – Regional Campus (NADT-RC), Mumbai, today commenced the second batch of ‘Navodaya-2026’, a 30-day Induction Training Programme for newly recruited Office Superintendents (OS) of the Income Tax Department. The programme began at the Ministerial Staff Training Units (MSTU), Mumbai, with the participation of 200 trainees. The campus is headed by Shri Navneet Manohar, Principal Additional Director General.

This year marks a significant milestone for the Income Tax Department, as the Office Superintendent cadre has been filled through direct recruitment for the first time. The cadre was created by merging the erstwhile Senior Tax Assistant and Office Superintendent grades under the CBDT Office Superintendent (Group ‘B’ Post) Recruitment Rules, 2024.

Following the nationwide Rozgar Mela held on September 20, 2026, during which appointment letters were handed over to selected candidates, around 6,626 Direct Recruit Office Superintendents have joined the Department across the country during FY 2026–27. This is an unprecedented recruitment drive for a ministerial cadre in a single year.

NADT-RC Mumbai is playing a major role in this nationwide training initiative, handling the largest training responsibility with 1,438 Direct Recruit Office Superintendents across the Mumbai and Pune regions.

Ms. Meeta Singh, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-10, Mumbai, inaugurated the programme as the Chief Guest. Welcoming the new recruits, she highlighted the important role of Office Superintendents in ensuring efficient, technology-driven and taxpayer-friendly administration. She encouraged the trainees to make the best use of the programme to strengthen their knowledge of laws, procedures and office management, while continuing to learn and adapt to changing requirements.
