Indian Council of Agricultural Research–National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (ICAR-NIBSM), Raipur, organised a farmers’ awareness and training programme at Murta Gram Panchayat in Nawagarh block of Bemetara district under the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan–Rabi 2026. A total of 37 farmers participated in the programme.

Scientists Dr. Vinod Kumar Vashnik and Dr. Ashish Marathe from the institute provided detailed guidance on soil health conservation, balanced fertiliser application, natural and organic farming, and sustainable agricultural practices. They emphasised the need for judicious and requirement-based use of chemical fertilisers to maintain soil fertility and ensure long-term agricultural productivity. Farmers were also encouraged to adopt natural and organic farming practices for sustainable crop production.

An interactive session was also organised, during which farmers shared various farming-related problems and challenges. The scientists addressed their queries and advised them to adopt sustainable and economically viable agricultural technologies suited to local farming conditions. The importance of crop residue management and conservation of soil and water resources was also highlighted. The programme was attended by Shri Budharu Gendle, Sarpanch of Murta Gram Panchayat, whose participation encouraged local farmers and strengthened community involvement in the initiative.

The Khet Bachao Abhiyan–Rabi 2026 aims to connect farmers with scientific agricultural practices, improve soil health, promote the judicious use of fertilisers, conserve natural resources and encourage climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture. Through the campaign, ICAR-NIBSM is continuously disseminating scientific knowledge and practical agricultural technologies to farmers to strengthen sustainable farming practices at the grassroots level.
