Mumbai, 22 October 2026
A State-level outreach workshop on the GOBARdhan Scheme was held in Mumbai today, bringing together State Government representatives, designated nodal organisation BPCL, and industry stakeholders to discuss opportunities and measures to accelerate the development of the Compressed Biogas (CBG) sector.
Organised by BPCL, the workshop focused on the implementation of the GOBARdhan Scheme, the Model State CBG Policy and the SASCI (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) 2026–27 framework.
The outreach initiative comes at a time when India is advancing efforts to strengthen energy security, diversify its energy mix and promote indigenous energy resources. Produced from organic waste and other biodegradable feedstocks, CBG offers opportunities to support cleaner energy production, improve waste management and create value from locally available resources.
The workshop also highlighted the opportunities at the upcoming India Energy Week (IEW) 2027, where Compressed Biogas (CBG) technologies and solutions will be among the key areas of focus.
Scheduled for 28–31 January 2027, the fifth edition of India Energy Week will be held in Kolkata. IEW 2027 will bring together policymakers, energy leaders, technology innovators, investors and industry stakeholders from across the world to showcase global innovations spanning the energy value chain.

The global energy conclave will also serve as a platform to strengthen energy security, advance sustainability and accelerate the development of cleaner energy systems. With more than 75,000 energy professionals and 700+ exhibitors expected to attend, IEW 2027 will offer opportunities to forge strategic partnerships and engage with decision-makers from across the international energy ecosystem.
Previous editions of India Energy Week have brought together senior government leaders and energy executives from major energy-producing and consuming economies. Seventeen Ministers and Deputy Ministers from countries including the UAE, Canada, the Netherlands, Oman, Brunei, Myanmar and Tanzania participated in IEW 2026, along with international organisations such as the International Energy Forum, BIMSTEC and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India Energy Week has grown rapidly since its debut in Bengaluru in 2023, expanding in scale, international participation and the breadth of issues addressed. At its fourth edition in Goa in 2026, the conclave was attended by over 6,500 delegates from more than 120 countries.
The emergence of India Energy Week as one of the leading global energy conclaves highlights India’s increasingly central role in the global energy ecosystem. India’s oil & gas demand is expected to reach 423 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030, a growth rate of 4% CAGR, with natural gas emerging as the fastest-growing segment. The refining capacity is estimated to touch 310 MMT by 2030 from 258 MMT in 2025.
At the same time, India’s non-fossil fuel capacity is expected to nearly double to 500 GW, reflecting the parallel expansion of conventional and renewable energy. These developments are creating sustained demand for investment, infrastructure, indigenous technologies and international collaboration across the energy value chain.
Opportunities for Maharashtra at India Energy Week 2027
Maharashtra is central to this evolving energy landscape, with a significant presence across upstream oil and gas, refining, natural gas infrastructure and renewable energy. The state is home to Mumbai High, India’s largest producing oil field, and has a combined refinery capacity of 21 million metric tonnes per annum.
Maharashtra’s energy infrastructure includes the 694-km Mumbai–Nagpur Natural Gas Pipeline, an upcoming 10 GW integrated solar ingot and wafer facility, the largest in India, and a 21 TPD multi-feedstock combination Nagothane CBG plant.
The state is also pursuing ambitious clean-energy goals, including meeting 65% of its electricity demand through renewable energy by FY 2035–36 and achieving green hydrogen production capacity of 500 KTPA by 2030. Its Compressed Biogas Policy, which envisages a CBG plant in every taluka, further underlines the state’s commitment to developing its bioenergy ecosystem.
India Energy Week 2027 will offer Maharashtra an opportunity to present its energy projects, investment pipeline and policy priorities to a global audience of energy companies, technology providers and investors. With an estimated investment outlay of ₹3.3 lakh crore by 2030 across power generation, transmission and distribution, the state can use the platform to build partnerships, access technology and financing, and explore opportunities to scale projects in renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen and CBG.
The event’s international participation and exhibition, conference and networking platforms will also enable Maharashtra to engage with global partners and strengthen its position as a destination for energy investment and innovation.
About India Energy Week
India Energy Week is the country’s flagship global energy platform, bringing together government leaders, industry executives and innovators to accelerate progress towards a secure, sustainable and affordable energy future. As a neutral platform, India Energy Week drives investment, policy alignment and technological collaboration shaping the global energy landscape.
Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India Energy Week 2027 is being organised by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), with Informa Markets as Conference Organiser.
India Energy Week 2027 will take place from 28–31 January 2027 at the New Town Convention Centre, Kolkata, India, under the theme “Unlocking Innovation, Securing Energy, Shaping Tomorrow.”
